Yeah, Michael's power wasn't eclipsed by anyone. He had a terrific shot...heck, he knocked Muhammad down with a beautiful one.

De Paula ! great shout, what a exciting fighter he was, smallish, squat looking, but with a air of menance about him, both in and out of the ring, mixed with unsavoury people, and paid the price.

Although I think that punch tests and sparring partners' commentaries could be helpful, I do see the flaws in either one. I was using those to point out that it's really impossible to tell who hit harder. All we can trust is our eyes when we watch the film, but that is only so conclusive in itself. I think the best thing would be to compare Foster's and Spinks' level of opposition, and determine whether certain fighters were knocked out cuz they were hit hard, or were they just chinny. I mean, the fact that Spinks knocked out Yaqui Lopez and floored him was proof of his power, since Lopez was a tough guy. On the other hand, the fact that Spinks knocked out Marvin Johnson could be attributed to Johnson's lack of durability and stamina, although he was clearly hit with a big shot. Honestly, I find it harder to determine this with Foster's opponents, since many of them were only filmed when they fought Bob and never again before or after. The reason I think Foster hit harder is that he was a small light heavy even in his own day (weight) and the outcome of his knockouts seemed so much more devastating than when Spinks knocked a guy out. P4P I would have to say Foster is perhaps the hardest puncher of all time.

Ive noticed he does a lot of man watching, especially for Big George always talking about his thick frame and other “beastly” men it’s really *****.

Foster hit harder than Spinks, IMO, but not by a big margin

Spinks fought and beat better light heavyweights. Saad, Johnson and Qawi are better than Tiger, Rondon, and Mike Quarry at light-heavy. Hard to compare opposition but Spinks fought better fighters.

I would have to agree with you about Michael fighting somewhat better opposition. I say that, because Michael beat several damn good guys like Johnson, Lopez, Muhammad, Qawi, etc., yet Foster beat several good fighters as well, they just are less known to us today.

Love Bob but disagree with the bolded. He beat some decent guys but they were't on the level of Spinks guys and that isn't because they are "less known to us". Many in here lived through Foster in real time or close to it. Fosters guys are no-where near the level of those you named for Spinks.

    No i won't!!! :D

Eddie's great mate be nice. He takes you on because you are often harsh. You just need to soften your wording a little and find some lurve and respect for different opinions particularly when they are solid as is the case here imo.

The truth of the matter in this one imo is that Foster didn't hit "much" harder than Spinks. Go and watch all of Spinks fights at 175 and steer clear of his heavyweight stuff unless you compare his power there vs Bob's heavyweight resume.

I would agree Foster hits harder. He's in the conversation for being the greatest P4P puncher ever - he is truly frightening. Even with all this weight behind him he does not hit much harder than Spinks as Spinks power at 175 is horrifying.

Nice one, JT, though I don't know why you bother. I tend to ignore most of the keyboard hard men around here but this one just gets under my skin. Which is probably the end goal and why he keeps being so provocative after ten years (ten years - ten f***ing years - of trolling middle aged men who like boxing from the safety of an internet forum and he tells me to get a life and that I wouldn't challenge him to his face. Words fail me.).

I just wish he'd be true to himself, put his pink hot pants on and find a forum where the other men would have similar interests. He might find happiness there and all this suppressed rage would disappear.
