Why do people rate Donald curry so highly?

Curry didn't lose until he couldn't make weight.

Well a close loss that's avenged isn't a real loss. I mean yeah it happened, but it isn't something to hold against him. The loss after 6 rounds due to a head butt is obviously not held against him neither. The Curry loss is the only one you can hold against him.

The rest of your post is just nonsense.

Donald should have never gone in there with Honeyghan. He'd had the flu couldnt train properly had to sweat the weight off was really weak as a kitten. Dave Gorman & trainer Paul Reyes wanted to pull Don out but Akhbar Muhammad insisted he fought. The rest is history

Curry made weight. Curry defended his title. Curry lost.

Curry left the division with no belts.

If Curry couldn't make weight, the fight never would've taken place. But he could make weight.

You may not like the result of the fight that actually took place, but it took place.

And Starling didn't just lose to Curry at welter.

If you'd like to discuss the ACTUAL records of the boxers from the 80s, that would be nice.

Clearly, you don't. Because when you discuss their actual records, they're pretty comparable, if not as good, as the current welters.

The lines are LET'S NOT DISCUSS WHAT HAPPENED because then they don't sound as good as we wanted them to be.

Curry made weight. Curry lost his titles in the ring. Curry left with no belts. And Starling didn't just lose to Curry at welter.

If Curry beat Leonard for the belts, cleaned out the division and left the division without losing his titles, and Starling only lost to Curry at welter, that's a different topic altogether.

    But that wasn't the case.

Curry beat the same type of guys (if not worse) than the current top welters faced to win their belts, and Curry got knocked out when he lost them.

Were Jun Suk Hwang and Milton McCrory better than Kell Brook and Shawn Porter?

And Starling didn't go undefeated at the weight except for his losses to Curry, either. And Marlon lost all his belts in the ring, too, to guys other than Curry, as well as non-title fights, too.

Let's discuss actual records, not the ones you all "wished" they had.

    Unbelievable.

Why would I not like it lol. Honeyghan was repping England and had just dethroned the reigning P4P King.

It's one of our countries greatest ever victories.

Your posts are becoming increasingly more erratic (LOL)

Donald Curry was a fantastic Welterweight champion. he ventured in a higher weight class. But as another respected poster stated, he lost when he could no longer make the 147 lb limit, it was against Lloyd Honeyghan in Sept 1986.

    Man Curry was special.
In the unpaid ranks he lost I think maybe 4 times in 400 fights.
He would have won the gold for sire in the 1980 Olympics
Look how good Marlon Starling is. Who ever dominated him? Curry- that second fight he beat the hell out of Starling the last couple of rounds.
Milton Mccroy could fight. Curry just walked through him in TWO rounds.Years latter MCcallum took 10 rounds to get Mccroy out.
Carlos Santos. Slick southpaw. Curry was beating him up so bad he fouled to get out of the ring.
I don't know what happened to Curry. After Honeyghan he would be on for one round and then off the next round. He was never the same.
Kinda like Camacho. These guys were so talented that getting hurt was maybe something they had never dealt with and once it happened they couldn't cope with it.
But if Leonard would have comeback and faced an unbeaten Donald he would have lost I promise you that.
Listen to the !ccallum vs Curry bout as Leonard does commentary. He seems pissed when Donald was doing good and annoyed when Mike was getting tagged.

Maybe, although Lloyd Honeyghan hit harder than Shawn Porter does. That is my impression, and that made a difference. I don't think Shawn rocks him in round 2, which means Donald would be getting off some of his counterpunches on a guy who does not think much about defense at times. I think Donald wins a UD against Porter.

He made the weight, defended his belt and lost.

He not only made weight, he came in "under" the limit by a half pound.

He lost his welterweight title in the ring with the belts on the line BECAUSE HE MADE WEIGHT.

    Christ Almighty.

Curry weighed 147 for most of his defenses. He was under weight for Honeyghan.

He didn't come in heavy. He didn't come in overweight the first time he stepped on the scale and have to go back and sweat off more weight. He didn't lose the titles on the scales and the belts were only on the line for Honeyghan.

He made weight (came in under, in fact) fought the fight and lost. In the ring.

Donald Curry came in lighter for the Lloyd Honeghan fight than he did for any fight since he won the belt against Hwang. (LOL)

Curry was one of those guys who looked great for a little while, but ultimately didn't pan out.

    1984 Curry beats 1984 Leonard.
    1987 Leonard beats 1987 Curry.
