Why not? We have had much worse HW world champions! He isn’t going to beat Fury though, too slow, ponderous and predictable in his movement. Same goes for AJ and Usyk. I’d even be surprised to see DDD beat Whyte or Povetkin for the Same reasons. He could do well against Wilder but it’s more likely that Wilder lands that big overhand right a few times and it’s goodnight DDD A Joseph Parker or Andy Ruiz fight would be good next step fights. I don’t know if he wins against these two, similar levels, but both have held a world championship belt so there is no reason DDD can’t at some stage in the future when he is a bit more polished
Dubois is the real deal, beats everyone at HW right now besides Fury and maybe Joshua. Demolishes the other prospects Yoka, Hrgovic, Ajagba etc and the guys coming up from Cruiser.
He doesn't really impress me all that much, but then again, none of the prospects do, so I would have to say that, yeah, in 6-10 years when Fury and Joshua are gone, he might pick one up. Really bad crop, though. A lot of young talent, but they are all too old, too inactive, too crude, too chinny, and on and on.
In 6-10 years time Dubois will be mentioned in a similar breath as Harrison and Price as far as British heavyweights go.
I am not arguing that he is a good fighter. He tellegraphs a lot of what he is doing, and his power is probably overblown. But the current crop stinks. We shall see.
No one can really know at this stage because he hasnt fought at the level where he will be seriously tested. However based on what I have seen so far. He will at least become a world champion (single belt holder) at some point in his career. He has already shown a good set of whiskers, and a extreme power and aggression. All elements that will take you long way as a HW. I have doubts about his boxing IQ at the highest level, so he could very well be unravelled by a certain type of opponent. Especially the defensively excellent, and the counter punching type. But I think this will only come when he is at world level.
He is young enough, when Fury, AJ, Wilder and a few others are gone, who will be left? I'm just not seeing or hearing about anything special coming through right now, DD is gaining experience as we speak, he is active and learning, so in 5 years time who knows just how good he will be? So I can see him picking up a version at some point.
I think he will. Hes a big boy and punches hard. He really needs to demonstrate he can fight good opposition and put on a great show against Joyce. His footwork his good but his head movement is non existent which seems to be a thing for huge heavyweights these days. I also think he would struggle against Parker, Ruiz and Usyk due to their slickness and speed. Time will tell.
Impossible to say as he's far too young and inexperienced and potential to improve. But right now based on his current skill set Fury and AJ would both knock him out and do so easily. Dubois right now is just an offensive machine and even then not a very evolved one. We've never seen him pressured or face any kind of adversity apart from getting stunned momentarily by Lartey. The thing that concerns me the most about him is since he turned pro I really haven't seen much change in how he fights though that maybe down to the terrible opposition he's faced so far, so he hasn't needed to show anything new. He squares up too much, after throwing he's too stationary and there to be countered and when he opens up he's wide open to be drilled down the middle and with him squaring up so much I could see him being dropped in this scenario. He's also predictable in his attacks, jab, jab right hand the odd left hook lead but overall it's rinse and repeat. Even when he opens up on guys on the ropes his shot selection is very predictable, left, hook, right hook, repeat over and over, throw in the odd uppercut. Johnson despite spending so much time on the ropes was able to just shell up and block most of the shots or ride with them to take out the sting. Joshua in contrast didn't just unload with left and right hooks, he arced his right hand over Johnson's attempt at a shoulder roll. Just a little variety from Dubois would of seen him stop Johnson, he had 10 rounds to figure that out and never did. He also doesn't counter punch, occasionally he throws when you throw but he doesn't really slip and counter, meaning when he does stop punching opponents can then go on the offensive. It's one of the reasons why I'm picking Joyce to beat him. What happens when Dubois has finished throwing? Answer he's either gonna get hit or back up and be pushed into a defensive posture until he decides to throw again, but again if his next volley doesn't KO Joyce, he's again forced into a defensive posture and taking shots, he can do that for a while but when he's past the 6th round with a guy throwing 80 punches or more a round at him and starting to gas and taking more opportunities to rest and getting hit more and more what does he do? Much like how Fury backed up Wilder and shut down his offence, I can see Joyce doing the same to Dubois. He has to KO Joyce early or he's getting gradually forced back and beaten up. Even if he does get the KO over Joyce I have big questions as to how he can continue to win at top level when he's so one dimensional and predictable. Eventually he's going to find someone who he can't back up and KO and when that happens he'll come up short and lose.
IF Dubois beats Joyce then I will jump on the bandwagon. His competition has been woeful and embarrassing.
unlikely, if only because the overwhelming majority of fighters don't and he's not really showed anything yet.
