This turned out to be a very bad crop of heavyweight prospects.

I was pretty jazzed that there were so many of them, but I don't see one that I really wholeheartedly support. Someone could still break out, and I guess one of them has to be better than the others, but still, THE GUY is not there.

Dubois- he looks crude and telegraphed to me, and I think his power is a bit overrated based on the fact that he hasn't had a good measuring stick fight, other than Kingpin Johnson, who, as ususal, went the distance. I was starting to get on his bandswagon because it seemed he would fight anyone--then they weasled out of the Pfiefer fight, and I understand Joyce probably won't happen. I am not going to say he is just a hypejob, but there is more hype than reality AT THIS POINT.

Joyce- Crude, free-swinging, and old, he will provide a few decent fights and disappear.

Yoko- PED problems already, and we all know why. His chin is a disaster waiting to happen. This Olympic gold-medalist generates no excitement whatsoever.

Hrgovic- I sound like a broken record with this guy but he looks like he is sleeping half the time. I am hoping that he is the kind of guy who fights to the level of his competition, but we will never know since he seems to turn down decent fights like Bakole. We were oversold on this guy, especially his power.

Dychko- Double-bronze has promising skills, but his career is going NOWHERE, and he is 30. This guy could have a quality break-out, but I think we have all seen this before and kind of know that he is not going to.

Ejagba- Looks like a fun, hard-punching action fighter with little real talent to me. He could be a sleeper but I see nothing special skill wise.

Fa- Nothing special whatsoever. Doesn't even punch his weight, which is considerable since he is going to be a weight problem guy.

Milas- This guy has developed a bit of a following for taking on a series of tough veterans, and he isn't bad for an unheralded guy, but just looks like a classic boxer-puncher who is not great at either. He will have some fun fights and that is probably it.

Nistor- Never seen his professional fight and he is just too short and heavy. His big start was derailed by Covid. He should be a cruiser.

Majodov- Got started too late, and now having to wait for Covid. You just know that he is not going to get the big push. He will literally be 40 before we see him in a fight that matters. People are still intrigued by his huge power and solid amateur skill, but it looks to me like he is in that Dychko bracket promotionally.

Sirenko, Vykhorst, Vianello, Thun- Just no data here. Let's get them some fights. Any one of these guys could be sleepers, but alas, we don't know.

Zakhozhyi- A special thing about this guy. His main advantage is height, and he doesn't use it. Also seems not to punch his weight.

Jalalov- The guy just disappeared. I think he is going back to the amateurs.

Mahkmudov- Very impressive specimen, but he looks rather crude, and his stamina has not been tested. Could be a sleeper.

Kossobutskiy- I like this guy. Could be a sleeper, but we need to see a LOT more of him.

And on and on. McKean, the Morrisons Meehan...there are a dozen more guys you could name. The point is, none of them have the mark of a future ATG.

There is not one active hopeful that I can say will be the next heavyweight superstar, people don’t like to hear it but the USA doesn’t care about joshua, fury and those are the current champions and wilder when he was carrying the wbc belt was not generally liked in the USA at all. The reality is that the USA itself has nobody active that is marketable to the public, there’s a missing ingredient to superstardom that promoters themselves can’t figure out.

    Yeah, its called Quality.

The USA is out of the title picture, and will be for a long time.

Hard to understand to because with MMA, people now train for boxing again, and there are literally hundreds of thousands of failed NBA and NFL wannabees walking around. But there it is.

People will always find a reason to complain about the Heavyweight division and boxing general. Back in the Klitshcko Era you had people complain about the lack of decent fighters and Wlad's boring style. Now that the divsion is finally exciting you still have people who nag on how terrible the division. You should stop moaning about who sucks and enjoy the show.

I think Dubois is going about it the best way. He’s only 22.

Not every heavyweight that comes out of the gate will look like Mike Tyson. Dubois has had 15 fights, he needs time to make improvements which is what he is getting. Speaking of Tyson he didn’t step up competition until his 20th fight.

Wilder didn’t step up competition until like his 40th fight and that was against a man who was, I kid you not, sixty seven years old at the time. He held a belt for five years.

Does Dubois chin hold up is the real question, once he gets hit flush.

I didn't say the division is terrible. I said that the prospects were very bad, and then, in the specifics, walked it back on some of them to give a more objective analysis.

Seriously, I don't mean to start an argument with you as you are a decent fellow, but please, respond to what was actually said.

    Thanks.

Boxing needs a great American HW, I say this as a Brit. Wilder even with talent is too much of a buffoon to be the torch bearer. So yh maybe next generation

You can't be gifted the greatest heavyweight of all time (Tyson Fury) and expect the next crop to be near.

I’ve seen a few people say Yoka has a weak chin? What evidence is there to suggest that? I’m genuinely curious.

It stems from him getting stopped in the amateurs a few times

I think Hrgovic dropped him (delayed reaction) in their Olympic bout too but the ref chose not to count it

Some of those mentioned in the OP still have excellent potential. But they need to be more active, not fighting for a long time will dull their skills.
