I’m positive Holyfield would’ve beaten Tyson in 91

    If the fight had happened in 91 like it was supposed to im 100% positive Holyfield would have won. Tyson was already showing that he naturally wasn’t a defensive wizard or a combo puncher without Rooney. He was over relying on single power shots by this time and that just wouldn’t be enough to back up prime Holyfield. Can’t imagine Tyson handling the pressure a young, determined, roided up Holyfield would bring. Anyone agree?

    Not without his steroids he wouldnt... I doubt he would even with them.

    Ptobably Holyfield wins. If Tyson kept active and kept Rooney after the Spinks Anniliation, Mike would have beaten the Holyfield who stuggled mightily with Dokes in 1989.

    Agreed. He had Tyson's number, and proved it twice. He would have in 91 as well.

    It's fair to say both versions were completely different in 1991 than in 1996.

    In those 5 years, Tyson was in prison for 3 of them with a total of 4 years away from the ring all the while Holyfield was gaining big fight experience against Holmes, Bowe, Stewart, Bowe again, Moorer, Mercer and Bowe a 3rd time.

    I lean towards Tyson in 1991 in a tremendous fire fight.

    Just because you have a guys number when hes severley past his peak it doesnt follow you would when he was a vastly superior fighter, as Tyson was under Rooney.

    Trust me nobody was thinking Holyfield would give Tyson problems after Tyson was anihliating Spinks in 1988 and Holyfield was fighting a shot James Tillis and Pinklon Thomas and then having major problems with a past prime Michael Dokes. Timing can mean a lot in boxing.

    Holyfield studies Tyson his whole career and made sure he knew all his moves and made sure he knew how to counter, he could read him like a book, not because Tyson is predictable because he isn’t, Holyfield just studied him hard, way before 1991

    I am aware that at the time everyone thought Tyson was unbeatable, I've been a boxing fan for 40 years and followed Tyson - and Holyfield's - careers from start to finish. But just because we all thought Tyson would beat Holyfield before Douglas exposed him doesn't mean it would have happened.

    Tyson was a great, but flawed fighter. Holyfield is, and always was, tougher and technically better. He had exactly what it took to beat Tyson at any point during his career. And I don't buy this mythology that Tyson was unbeatable with Rooney - he just didn't face anyone that COULD beat him. Holyfield always could, and would, because he wasn't beaten before the bell rang like most of Tyson's opponents up to Douglas.

    Holyfield was gaining experience while Tyson was in prison but those wars were already taking their toll on him by the time he fought Tyson. Holyfield was also 4 years older

    Holyfield beats every version of Tyson and the funny thing is that the Tyson fanboys believe that we have to defend this point lol, it is not any debate kids.

    Holyfield beat Douglas and Tillis inside of 5 and Tyson struggled and was beaten by both.
    Holyfield was inactive,washed came from losses with heart operation to face Tyson.
    1991 Holyfield would beat him even easier

    It would have been closer than '96, but Evander always had Mike's number; they met as amateurs competing for slots on the 1984 Olympic team and Holyfield wasn't intimidated or impressed. Reportedly they sparred, and Evander (predictably) says he "whupped" Tyson; there was another altercation over who could use a pool table, and Tyson backed off. It's always a battle of wills, and Holyfield was just stronger.
