Well, like I said. There's question marks there. Baer doesn't look especially good on film (although I do have him the hardest hitter ever), and he didn't look good on that night. Farr was very average IMO, and the Lewis win was very flukey. He wouldn't have won if Lewis hadn't had the rounds took off him. Fitz never beat anyone who looks good on film IMO.

Although I do really like Braddock and find him quite underrated. His story is inspirational. I think he'd beat Foster and Corbett at HW.

I don't think we have enough film of his opponents to conclude that.

What do you think about George Gardner on film?

I think his resume is really undervalued, and I seem to remember thinking one or his fights was really good. Other than that, I never looked into him deeply.

There used to be much better version available on YT, but I can't find it anymore...
I'd like to hear your opinion about this film ;)

Yeah I saw that. In fact, wasn't it you who did a thread on it once?

I think both look decent, especially compared to a few others from that time. Fun fight, but neither look like ATGs.

I did, but nobody replied :(
I think that Gardner looks quite good, he doubled the jab to set up overhand right and he's quite fast on his feet. Root wasn't bad either, he knew how to box. I wouldn't call Gardner an all-timer either, but he looks like a very solid contender and Fitzsimmons outboxed him at 40 years old with bad hands.

I think this tells us that Fitzsimmons was much better than some give him credit for, because Corbett fight doesn't give us clear picture.

I'd take Baer over the lot.

Not this version of Baer. He looked absolutely terrible in that fight and I'm a fan of Maxie.

I'm not buying what you are selling sorry. As I've said a few times i am not sold one bit on the heavies of the Fitz era.

Fair enough, agree to disagree then ;)

By the way, have you seen Gardner fight? What do you think about this short clip?

I wouldn't call him anything amazing that's for sure.
