Dillian Whyte has gotta be careful with jumping straight into this rematch. It was a fight he should have won (given Pov is shot to pieces) but this could be his own version of Tony Thompson if he’s not careful.
We all can have a laugh and they are funny but we all know what's coming, it's just standard Eddie, Matchroom and Sky. One thing that's not really been spoken about when it comes to Whyte Vs Povetkin is they sold that fight as a "Huge Risk", they told us all that if Whyte lost he would lose his mandatory position and it would all be over, he would have to start again, the 1000 days, that he was walking a tightrope, taking an unnecessary risk AGAIN. Whyte loses and the first thing that comes out of Hearns mouth is "We have a rematch clause". So it wasn't really that risky, well, time line wise it was, it may put them back a few months in a way but as far as we know if Whyte wins a rematch he is back in the position he was before the first fight. And Hearn is saying if Whyte wins the rematch he sees no reason why Whyte wouldn't be in exactly the same position, mandatory before the end of Feb 2021. So how will they sell the rematch? Exactly the same, just a little twist, it will be sold as "Whytes last chance" and they will talk about "huge pressure" and how his career is on the line and his status as a PPV fighter.. but back to the old risk/reward narrative. We were sold lies in the first fight, it wasn't that risky, it wasn't do or die, it was "lose and we will just do it again and have another PPV". If you look at it Financially and the PPV dates they need to fill, it actually suits Hearn, Matchroom and Sky that Whyte lost.
The Matchroom and Sky Spin is relentless - they have Toe Haye on standby for more contracted days should there be any mugths needing more reassurance before pressing that order button.
That's the number Hearn gave to Kugan when asked. Usually one could look at Barb but the site has changed so and can't look at ratings now. Makes no difference to me just I do remember some claiming this would bomb hard and do less than 200k. I would say its a good sign that boxing still has an audience even when a fight is in a back garden and Whyte himself has built himself quite the fan base who will pay to watch him fight.
Matchroom are frauds, they have a propaganda show with sky running like a Russian state TV lies after lies from Eddie and his team of bias experts. I’m shocked sky has run with it did so long, they have lost so much credibility over it imo Rotten to the core
I think the way he lost suited Sky and Matchroom. If Whyte would have lost a UD its a harder sell but now its a lot easier to sell Povetkin as a dangerous opponent who can knock Whyte out again. Both were put on the floor so it will be sold as a war and the public will lap it up. All the talk is just a promoter doing their job.
Hahaha yes absolutely. That really nails any Dave Allen interview after an inevitable defeat. Great posts from you and @N17
Price vs Hughie would be more interesting than Le Skirt vs the doncaster donut Price might not psychologically gas like normal as hughie fights like a girl
See numbers online suggesting it was just under 200K. Was a legit source, one I’d trust more than Hearn personally. Trying to track the tweet down now, was a U.K. fella
If Whyte loses it’ll be very interesting to see what Matchroom do. He’s probably their second most marketable asset after Joshua - but if he loses this then they can’t really justify him being a PPV headliner very easily. I think they’ll push Joshua Buatsi but he has that Dubois issue of not being very interesting.
