I was looking for the fights where he loses and I found out that he actually managed to put all three of the guys who beat him down. Even in the fights where he goes the distance he manages to score a knockdown. I know he mostly faced bums, but I think it’s pretty interesting that he managed to put everyone he faced on the canvas.

He was a killer in their despite being out-boxed and out-brawled by Benn without Steward in his corner.

Yes but he had serious brain problems going into the fight, if benn fought a healthy McClellan I think he would have lost

I am pleasantly surprised Benn is as healthy as he is. Taking hurricane punches from McCllelan surely can't be good for anyones health.

Crazy how McClellan really didn’t take too much punishment in his career but ended up worst than most

I think there is a genetic component here. George Chuvalo took thunderous hits from Foreman and Frazier, and sounds like he never fought in his life

On the other hand, Frazier would clearly slur in the later part of his life. There has to be a genetic component here. Some people can handle more than others.

Plus i wonder whether McClellan dehydrating himself could have worsened the impact of the blows to his brain.

Great to see Chuvalo sounding fine, and yes McClellan was known to completely drain himself just to make weight, I also think the Jackson fight did most of the damage, imagine taking those kinds head shots while your completely dehydrated

    Without question.

One of the things that has been brought up about this (from the very start of the day-before weigh-ins and how boxers abuse that) is that when you dehydrate to the level that a guy like McClellan did you end up even dehydrating some of your brain fluid. And rehydrating does not replenish brain fluid in the short time between the weigh-in and the fight.

So the brain is more knocking around against the skull instead of sloshing around in a fluid-filled orb.

because he had serious brain problems going into the fight. That’s like giving Holmes credit for beating Ali

More bull****. Did his brain stop functioning after the first round? He always had shitty stamina and no inside game.

So if someone goes into a fight with brain damage you expect them to perform as if it wasn’t there???? If you think that I have no idea what to say to you

There's no evidence he had brain damage going into the fight. He performed almost perfectly in the first round. Then fell apart when Benn pressured him at close-mid range
