The dude had a dream job. Get paid to watch boxing live, mingle with fighters, and he was actually fantastic at his job (immense hatred of Pac aside). But his mouth finally wrote checks he couldn't cash and it had been a VERY long time coming. He got away with very publicly accusing Pac of PEDs (unprofessional on an obscene level) and using homophobic slurs, but it's hilarious that the BLM movement lead to him being canned.
Ward is just AWFUL on tv. Zero personality, it is crazy to think that ESPN can't find better talent than that.
It used to be quite OK at times, but Jesus ****! At first he sounded like a fighter trying to be a commentator, which is nice(he lacked the personality a bit for my taste). But now he has gone full company man **** him. **** Bradley and his giggling. **** that other guy. I WOULD **** that lady they have on sometimes. But just to get her to STFU as well. **** em all. ESPN´s commentary table is likely costing them viewers.
He gave Ramirez 4 of the first 5 rounds(it was really the other way around tbh) and said that Josh Taylor is a poor inside fighter and Ramirez will capitalise on that.
Boxers tend to come across trying way too hard when commentating. Commentary team should be 2 maybe 3 people One guy with the play by play Another who's chemistry matches the play by play guys commentary and the technical analyst (recent ex-boxers) who give more insight at the end of the round Paulie's technical analysis was always pretty good.... unneedingly emotional or biased commentary is what I hate. Whyte Povetkin commentary wasn't good, they made it sound like Whyte was controlling them first 2 rounds easily which he wasn't. totally ignored Povetkins bodywork.
I don't have a problem with Ward at all but the bootleg Teddy Atlas that is Tim Bradley is just awful.
I agree that Tim is not exactly made for TV either, but at least he has a little bit of personality. He makes jokes, and is more of a character. Ward is cardboard, plain yogurt, white rice with no seasoning, cooked dry noodles on a plate, a plain white t shirt and jorts, no SOUL.
I agree, Tim definitely isn’t the best commentator but he definitely brings some positive vibes to the table
To the OP, yes Paulie is a moron, but no he is not fantastic at his job. He's annoying to listen to. Paulie talks so fast his mouth moves faster than his brain thinks, he thinks he's so smart and such a student of boxing but mostly he talks a bunch of jibberish. Teddy Atlas also think he's so funny and smart but I would rather listen to Tim Bradley in a heartbeat than Teddy "I Know it all and I think I'm so smart and funny" Atlas or Paulie "I'm so knowledgable and I can describe to you every little thing that's happening in the ring but my brain sometimes can't keep up with my mouth, and I still have brain damage from when Conor McGregor knocked me down and when I lied about it saying that it wasn't a real knockdown" Malignaggi. Unlike Atlas or Maliganggi, Tim Bradley isn't full of himself, he is humble and he comes off as much more organic and enjoyable to listen to. I Agree with you Toney that Tim Bradley is just a cool guy who brings good vibes with him and has a real enthusiasm for the sport. Ward is knowledgable and insightful and I thought when he was an HBO commentator he did a solid job for the most part, but he doesn't have that natural organic energy and personality that Tim brings. Tim is easily my favorite commentator out of the 4. Just because he's fun to listen to and he doesn't dominate the audio waves. He lets the boxing matches breathe, unlike Altas or Malignaggi who suffocate boxing matches with their longwinded and nonsensical rants.
Paulie is still currently the best fighter to do commentary. He knows exactly what he's talking about, isn't afraid to go against the grain, is passionate and can be fast/eloquent. What he got fired for was certainly not explicitly hateful. It's a shame if he never commentates again because of it.
And the funny thing is that Taylor went chest to chest with the shorter fighter in Regis because Taylor has a better inside game then Regis and Regis is the much shorter fighter.
Not at all, there's big bucks in unemployment for just laying down scratching your balls, and he's probably already set for life anyway....
