With 24hr weigh in closer to 36hr guys can cut a lot of weight in comparison to Rocky's day. Fighters who are average size light heavys not even huge for the weight-class weigh more then Rocky when they step in the ring.
I have always found Marciano to be a bit of a confusing case, in terms of how big he was. If you look at his tale of the tape, he seems to be small everywhere, and big nowhere (Often with a 185 pounder you find one dimension that is unusually high). Then when you look at pictures of him next to other fighters of the same weight, such as Moore, Patterson, older Dempsey or whoever, he always looks much bigger than them! Something odd was going on, and I can't quite put my finger on it!
Just think of Ant Man weighing in for a light flyweight bout then up-sizing so he’s bigger than an airplane. He’d be unbeatable.
I think it's an interesting point, should P4P, but weight on the scale or weight in the ring. I don't think either answer really works, so we all just tend to ignore it.
Rocky was at his peak at 185lbs, SMW’s have weighed more or just under Rockys best weight the reality is Rocky is a small modern LHW (Undeniable) at best and the worst case is he’s a big SMW which only ups his P4P status long live the Rock.
Being ignorant doesn’t give you the right to tell people to stfu. Educate yourself before making dumb comments. His walk around weight was in the 210-220 area. He trained down. Unlike today where a man would train up.
I think he could clearly make 168 if he dehydrated. But it's a myth that all modern fighters are cutting loads of weight and are shredded/emaciated on the scales. Also, Marciano wasn't "soft". He was quite lean. Here's a couple of modern cruiserweights, world ranked, weighing in : This content is protected One guy is 198 pounds, 2 pounds inside the limit. The other guy is 196, a full 4 pounds inside the limit. Neither of them are shredded/emaciated on the scales. (Neither of them look lean as Marciano to me, either.) The way some people go on you'd have to believe any fighting above middleweight nowadays is a naturally solid 200 pounder. Which is far from true. I've met or stood close to plenty of the top fighters of this and while a few might be more "massive" that I expected, more often than not the reverse is true.
Yeah, it's absolute fact that not all fighters lose drastic amounts of weight. I'm pretty sure that was covered off elsewhere in the thread though.
Marciano would be a light-heavyweight or a cruiserweight today. His best fights he was at 181 - 189. He either needs to lose a few pounds or he hold his weight a few pounds heavier. A lot of the top cruiserweights look a bit "soft" these days, to be honest. Which is understandable .... because why would a solid 225, 230 pounder shred himself down and dry himself out to 199 3/4 ?? Makes no sense. There are a few massive cruisers, but there are more Marciano-size cruisers.
If he didn't cut water weight, and he could make 175, then I doubt it's too much of a stretch that he could cut 7lbs of muscle. But for Charles I, he had a ten month camp iirc? I doubt he's getting much smaller than that, if he dropped the extra 11-13lbs then he's a LHW. If he already cut water weight for some reason (which I kinda doubt) then he probably goes the route most do. He bulks up and fights as a small cruiserweight. He didn't seem to mind being smaller in his own era, I fail to see why he would in this one.
