I said with the caveat of if Kell has slipped, that might be competitive, Kell looked the best he had in years and it wasn't close to competitive, he destroyed poor Mark.
Idk man, the sport's fandom is pretty much split down the middle as to whether Bud or Spence is king at WW ...and Brook fought on very even terms for long stretches against the latter. Yes, it was a few years ago now and yes he's a hard-used mid-thirties, but still...
Nürnberg Arena - Nuremberg, Germany Sven Ottke vs Joe Calzaghe Ricky Hatton vs Junior Witter Kell Brook vs Amir Khan
Now, some paranoiacs might assume Bob is going to pull out all the stops to ensure the house fighter wins so that unification summit between undefeated Crawford and Spence isn't ruined - but honestly the upset here isn't as much a nightmare scenario as it would be had Brook not put up that showing against Spence that he did. You could sell that rematch, for all the marbles. Easily. As lucrative as Crawford vs. Spence? Idk, maybe not, but not all that much less either (Crawford has never been particularly "over" with mainstream/casual fans, as his personality is somewhat boring and he's from...you know, Omaha) - particularly if Arum is willing to co-promote the show with Hearn and stage it across the pond, where it would be huge.
Would have rather seen him fight someone else but I'm looking forward to it. I don't think kell brook belongs at 154. Never did.
You think he was undersized? Then you must be damn impressed by the way he acquitted himself versus GGG..
Yes and no. I think brook is very good and belongs with the top welters and I was impressed that some of his shots seemed to have some effect on ggg particularly the uppercut but at the same time I would have expected that any of the top welterweights that can move would look decent against GGG for a couple of rounds until the power of gggs jab took effect in the same way that Kahn looked ok vs canelo and Gamboa looked good against crawford
I'm not sure too many would be leading on the lion's share of people's cards through four (I, like most, thought it was 38-38 at the very worst for Kell) and like you said, he scored a few big shots that got the Kazakh's attention.
I think Spence and Crawford would have put forth similar efforts. I don't think he's as good as either of them but hes better than porter and garcia
If its one fighter I'm dissapointed in career wise and felt they could and should have done a whole lot more in the game, its kell. I don't get invested in many fighters but it does make me sad kell didn't fulfill his potential.
Lonsdale outright held a world title for three years a handful of FOTY contenders ...I'd say he did alright. But yeah, I get what you mean; there is the feeling that with his potential it could've yielded more fruit.
Oh yes don't get me wrong, but he should have done so much more. Even if it was just Smashing up the clown that is Amir, that would have been so satisfying.. Lol
Yeah, whereas someone like Junior Witter really needed that Hatton win (assuming he could have in fact pulled it off) to secure a legacy and was left sorely wanting by its absence, Brook not harpooning his own White Whale doesn't leave him as quite the same bitter old Ahab. His was a fine run, even without the sweet cherry on top chinning the King with a dance-inducing brownie would've been.
Didn’t GGG break his eye socket in the second round, ribs in the fourth and finished it in the fifth?
Don't see what this does for Kell. Crawford is probably a well paying fight but it certainly isn't cashing out money.
