Where Does Fireman Jim Flynn rate?

I think not I'd say it was rather like the GunBoa tSmith decision and like that one ,rectified when Sam met him again.

 

I rate him higher then Larry Holmes.

 

He was neither the first nor the last of his kind. There have been several guys with similar careers and records at different sizes in different eras.

 

Well, it doesn't take much to be elite by these standards today either.

Well the Fireman couldn’t put out the Gunboat head to head.

 

But Flynn was never elite, he just fought everybody and ducked nobody. He had the kind of style that when you're not prepared for challenge, he'd outwork you. He was very limited, but he knew what he was doing.

 

Five ten and a half 193lbs.Decent size for the early1900's.

 

I think Flynn was part Italian. His birth name was given as Andrew Chiariglione.

 

Most of the press reported that Flynn had won. He seems to have just swarmed Langford and denied him punching room.

I've heard people say he was Italian. I'll take their word for it.

Chiariglione is generally an Italian or French surname. Originally French but just as common in Italy.
Andrew is Scottish, common in England and throughout the Anglophone world.
& "Jim Flynn" is a typical anglicized 'Irish' name.

Which all points towards him being a plain old typical American.

 

Dunno how he rates as a fireman but that’s a impressive boxing resume.
