Vitaly was ahead on points and the fight ended on a cut. Plus Lewis was a SHW himself who had every asset a champ needs. Fury is also a SHW and Wlad was 39 at the time. Still in good enough shape, but a bit passed his prime. Plus Fury moves extremely well for his size. Joshua beat a 41 year old Wlad, for ****'s sake.
Budy Baer migth not have been as good as Fury, but he hit harder than Fury. Let's not forget that Louis obliterated Baer Jr twice. The Buddy Baer fights, are not an argument against Louis beating the modern super heavyweights, they are something that should give Fury's advocates nightmares!
No he's not. He's different now, that doesn't mean better. Sure, he looked great in the wilder rematch, but he didn't vs Wallin. Fury from Wlad, Hammer, and the Chisora rematch was his peak. There was only one fight between Cunningham and that three-fight period.
Fury's prime started around the time he beat Wlad and it resumed now. Wilder hits way harder than Louis. Wilder might not be the most technical out there, but he's far more athletic than Baer. Or maybe Louis does not hit as hard as you think
OK, well let's look at what he did in his own era. The super heavyweights of his era were not as good as Lewis Klitschko etc, but they were at the very least world class. If Louis struggled against this kind of fighter, then we would expect them to have done at least as well, as the smaller fighters that he beat. The fact is that they couldn't keep him at range, and they couldn't tie him up, and they just got obliterated. He obviously excelled against this style of fighter. Make no mistake, he was better at taking apart big heavyweights than Tyson!
No he wasn't. The big HWs of Louis era were nowhere near as skilled as those Tyson faced. Put Tyson in Louis's era, with those thin gloves, and he murders everyone. Nobody makes it past round 1.
But you see that isn't true. The big men that Tyson beat, generally lasted the distance against him, and some of them were far from great. They generally survived, simply by clinching him. Do you really think that the big guys of Louis's era didn't have the same idea?
