Of all the current prime guys, isn't Usyk's resume the best? Gassiev, Glowacki, Briedis, Bellew, Hunter, Mchunu, Huck ect Canelo is up there but how many of his key fights did he actually win? None of Usyk's are controversial, whereas it feels like all of Canelo's are.
What years are you basing this era on? Because if you're talking current fighters I would say pac and Canelo.
With the exception of Mchunu, all in their backyards too This content is protected And even though he had 5 different trainers for his 8 world title fights and pretty much all of those guys sans Mchunu, who can actually crack a bit when he wants to, are either legit bangers or savage punching KO artists, Usyk was never seriously hurt or dropped by any of them which is pretty remarkable. How many other world champions can you think of who have fought that many legit bangers in back to back fights, let alone in their backyards for goodness sakes, and never been seriously hurt or dropped?
Well here's the way this would be responded to if he were anyone else; Bellew and Huck were shot Hunter and Gassiev were green What have glowacki and briedis proven to call them elite wins?
Interesting how you can fight another guy who is "green" when you're both 12-0, both qualified for the same olympics, and the "green" guy has been involved in the sport of boxing for longer. Gassiev was also green despite being in the championship of the tournament and having more pro fights?
Usyk is 10 years older than Gassiev and yes if you count his am record which is constantly referenced around here as one of his amazing accomplishments then yes Gassiev and Hunter were green in comparison. Kind of like how Canelo was called green as a pro with 40+ fights after losing to Mayweather even though they had a similar amount of pro fights. Yeah Gassiev was green as a pro by the standards set around here Ok we can go ahead and say Hunter was "drained" at cruiser. Better?
He's had a fantastic career so far, he has every chance of winning a belt at hw in the future to enhance his resume. He could end up at Holyfield level of greatness.
Yeah, I'd agree. Whether we're using our own cards or not, but I'd agree a lot more if we are. Because on fair cards, Canelo's resume goes from very good to very mediocre. On my card, he only lost to Lara, GGG (1) and obviously Floyd. Then I had him drawing with GGG (2), Jacobs and, IIRC, Trout. Then you have weight manipulation with rehydration clauses. It's not a good look. Briedis is the best win here. Not because of any controversial on Canelo's part, but because he's a better fighter than old GGG, old Cotto, old drained Noodles, drained Jacobs (or any Jacobs), Lara or Trout. Briedis is just better. And then when you factor in controversy, it's even clearer. Gassiev was absolutely not 'green' lmao. The guy holds wins over Dorticos, El Diablo and Lebedev coming off (IMO) his best performance. He was unified champ FFS. It's on par with any Canelo win before or after GGG, just not GGG himself. Who he shouldn't have beaten. Hunter wasn't drained either. He came in two pounds below CW, and then came in a pound lighter the next day. He was completely fine at the weight. He's a natural cruiserweight who's getting fat now. Calling Hunter green is a massive stretch too. You can't use Usyk's amateur career to say that he was fully experienced going in and not include Hunter's own very impressive am career. Mchunu is kind of meh. He just makes you look bad coz of his weird style. Good win, but nothing special. TBH same with Głowacki, even though I love him. He beat Huck first though, and I guess he beat USS and Vlasov too. He was a champion though. Huck was a decent win in name value. Kinda like Canelo's win over Kovalev but Usyk didn't jump up two weights to do it. Huck was coming off of a loss though, so it's not a great win. Stunning performance though.
Too much dirt on Canelo's name for him to take that accolade. Catchweights, clauses and gifts don't make for the best resume of the era anywhere you want to draw a line era wise IMO.
You seem strangely determined to discredit Usyk using poor arguments and illogical conclusions, so I'll leave you to it.
Yeah good fighters but it’s hard to have a memorable standout resume with fans when all those fights were in the cruiserweight division. Like I said those cruiserweights were good fighters but hardly household names or potential great fighters.
