Is that his evidence that the only guy to beat prime Ali would struggle? Does he think Gassiev would beat prime Ali too?
I love Joe but if you think Ali coming off of a near 4 year layoff was prime Ali then I've got some news for you, he wasn't. @George Crowcroft do you fancy running a class for this guy? He doesn't seem to know much about Ali.
I don't think Usyk hits as hard as Haye or Whyte. Though I could see a stoppage late with the ref stopping it with Chisora still on his feet or the corner throwing in the towel. I'd be surprised if Usyk got a clean KO or TKO stoppage.
Everyone gets one, but I'd have and have always called Ali prime for Frazier I. He was coming off his two best wins since Patterson, looked excellent in stopping Bonavena and Quarry. Also, his lay off was only three years and he'd fought 18 rounds professionally before fighting Joe. Not to mention the three training camps. Ali was also still in his 20s and would score his best wins years later. Great win for Frazier, who, IMO, deserved a draw in the 2nd fight (or a DQ win) and could have well won the third too. He wanted to continue but his trainer didn't let him, whereas Ali didn't want to continue but his trainer forced him to. Plus the Thrilla was pretty close on points at that point.
You call me out for a lack of knowledge yet your spouting off about today's cruiserweights being better than the heavyweights of the 70s. That's as close to a prime Ali as anyone's ever beaten. Stop playing dumb
Well firstly you're known to serve up dumb takes. Like ESPN paid to be the dumb guy on a debate show level dumb level takes so there's that. Secondly I'm asking a question based upon a debate I listened in on and started considering. I've asked a question, not given an answer. Thirdly today's cruiserweights would be heavyweights in the 70s. Normally I wouldn't point out something that obvious but you being you it feels necessary. And who's arguing that wasn't that as close to a prime Ali that anyone's beaten? Certainly not me. That doesn't mean he wasn't diminished from what he was pre-layoff.
Well you won't get it so all good my man. And tell me what you find embarrassing? That a fighter coming off a long layoff and personal problems wasn't as good as the one before he'd been through that? Come on speak your piece Petey.
Ali went 15 in a hard bout with Bonavena before getting the TKO. Post FOTC he then split two fights with Norton. The way he fought in Manila and Zaire was totally different to how the 67 Ali would have fought Joe and George.
Even if Usyk proves to be the best Heavyweight of this lot, I'd still pick Frazier. He's all wrong for the Ukrainian.
Quite confident in picking Frazier. He was able to take Ali's firepower to get inside, and Ali hit much harder than Usyk and had a much better jab. He'd do a number on Usyk before knocking him out.
