Ok the jones win was nothing, instead enjoy the Brewer highlights, awesome from Calzaghe This content is protected
One silver lining with his fragile hands is that he was forced to throw arm punches, which gave him a nice speed boost(see Tyson Fury). I thought Hopkins beat him, but the SD was fair(BS to anyone who says it was a dominant performance. People only say that because of CompuBox nonsense). But to me, Calzaghe showed that he more than belonged on that stage. That he was skilled enough to hang with the greats. This is why I hate these filler divisions. Usually they are weak as **** and then you get guys like Calzaghe who just go on a tear. If only he would have been a LHW. Man, he likely would have had similar success and been an actual legend.
it's pretty poor form boasting about a guy's skill when he stayed the hell away from the US when jones and hopkins were kings.
"hang with the greats" when they had lost their mantle, were losing as many as they were winning, and past prime (jones was well past it). context.
funny how fighters who do go to the US get their career-defining fights against the world's best, isn't it?
Did I talk about Jones? No. Hopkins went on to upset Pavlik and beat Pascal to make history as the oldest champion in boxing´s history. And even after he had lost a close decision to Dawson, he upset Cloud and managed to later on unify two belts. Hopkins record post Calzgahe was 7-3-1. So no, he did not loose as many as he won. And it´s not like Calzaghe was no damn spring chicken at 36.
Hopkins got it. Watched that fight loads of times and was no chance Hopkins won that. Probably shouldn't of mouthed off about I'd never let that white boy beat me.. where both in the tail end of there carrier's but Joe was on form that night, even with fragile hands
don't get me wrong, hopkins was the best win of calzaghe's career, even though he was 43, because he was still a very good fighter. and read my post again, i said calzaghe fought jones and hopkins when they were losing as many as they were winning - they were both 3-3 before fighting calzaghe. calzaghe had just come off the biggest win of his career (kessler) before fighting jones and hopkins too, so poles apart in terms of prime. point is, calzaghe avoided the US like the plague when jones and hopkins were kings. he wanted them on his record, so waited until they were at their lowest point before fighting them.
no, like the jones and hopkins fights. P4P kings and rulers of their division on the biggest stage of all.
