Warren and Eddie should be looking to schedule Yarde v Buatsi by early 2021. It generates big money for both to secure themselves.

Whoever wins can go for a world title if they can get the correct opponent.

Thought Yarde acquitted himself very well. Got hit a few times but IMO it’s because he felt Spelman’s power and decided he could take it. He was taking punches to dish far harder ones out in reply and that’s what led to the stoppage.

Yarde is never going to be a slick mover so using his power is the way to go. Thought some of his counters and defensive reactions were lightening quick.

Also thought Rawling’s commentary was a joke. So often Spelman would land but get hit by a way harder counter and Rawling would wank himself off at Spelman’s punch but not even mention Yarde’s.

Rawlings called out every punch thrown by Spelman and ignored all the work by Yarde making out is was a close fight

Misleading the public and diverting attention away from what was a shocking card and main event.

Thought those first 5 rounds were technically competitive. Yarde found his success in the 6th, and I agree that the hurt was inevitably only going to come one way. That said, Spelman deserved an opportunity to show that he’d cleared his head. It wasn’t a sustained beating, he’d copped a couple of clean shots. Plus, I can’t think of any other time when a previous defeat as come into the referees mind when it came to making a decision on stopping the fight. If that was a factor then Spelman shouldn’t have been allowed to fight.

Maybe I will watch it again later, but I don’t see how that fight was competitive in the slightest. Dec landed the occasional punch, which did zero damage and most of his jabs were flicks which barely hit the target and to me Yarde was just carrying him.

Dec was being hammered with big left hooks to the body which were clearly hurting him and the attack in the 6th was enough for me to call the fight off, rather than see Dec splattered on the canvas.

The Arthur fight was more something that was on my mind, maybe not the refs and I do actually think Dec shouldn’t have been in there, but that’s what it was.

You’re probably right. I only meant it was competitive in the technical side of it, although Yarde was in charge I thought Spelman was making him think. The difference for me was the power. When Spelman landed it did absolutely nothing, when Yarde landed it was like a sledgehammer.

Just watched the replay on the BT app. What an absolute BS stoppage. Spelman was hurt, and went down - fair enough. He got up, wasn't wobbly, had his gloves up when the ref asked, said he was ok, and then the ref waves off the fight. FFS.

Danny Wiliams wobbled about like a soft Jelly on Friday in round 1 yet allowed to continue - some stoppages are bizarre these days and no doubt there is pre fight promoter input in many cases.

No issue with the stoppage.yarde never blinked when spelman landed and he was just starting to let his hands go.only delayed the inevitable beat down.

I think the Spelman stoppage was premature. Even if it was delaying the inevitable. He was hurt and went down, he didn't have the fight beat out of him, he wasn't done or finished. The fight should be stopped if the hurt fighter has either, took too much punishment, doesn't want to carry on or unable to fight on or unable to defend himself, none of which applied to Spelman at the time. Poor stoppage in my book.

Poor stoppage. I still think refs should have to explain why they stopped the fight in situations like that. Spelmans reaction wasn't of a man badly dazed let alone unable to continue.

I guess you wanted Dec to be completely smashed & knocked unconscious instead.

He’s a tough man, but that doesn’t mean he should be allowed to carry on soaking up abuse. It’s the tough guys who often need the most looking after - he’s got so much heart, but he had nothing to offer Yarde and he must be in a world of pain today.

Inclined to agree with this. Was the stoppage premature? Probably. But the thing is that NONE of Spelman’s punches had any impact on Yarde. The chances of Spelman turning the fight around with a punch was very very slim. And there’s not much on the line here.

Had that been a title fight then yes the ref would have definitely allowed Spelman to box on. Also had even just one of Spelman’s punches stunned Yarde it stopped him in his tracks the ref would have probably given him a chance to box on in that scenario.

    Stoppage was fine imo
Spelman took a long time to get up and was genuinely hurt
Course he could continue but the ref deemed it pointless at this stage and id have to agree
