Well Sky customers are still paying customers, and it's a good idea to keep your customers happy. Plus, as you say they might have a reduced crowd inside too, so there might be some tickets to sell. On the other hand, we've seen some terrible opponents in the main events on BT's post lockdown cards, e.g Dubois' opponent at the weekend. Ok then, swap the word surely for hopefully from my post.
Yeah I didn’t mean to come off as a dick about it or anything, sorry. I just think most of the boxing since Covid, whether that be Top Rank and PBC in the States, or Frank and Eddie here has just essentially been putting it on for the sake of it. Cheap fights that keep that level of boxers happy, while the broadcasters are easy to please at the moment as they are still desperate for content, and know that big fights won’t happen without gate receipts. All makes it a bit of a free hit for promoters, who have no real incentive to put on decent fights. It’s a shame, but the likes of Buatsi were getting away with easy fights before Covid, and will continue to do so for the foreseeable future, at least until Covid can stop being an ‘excuse’ for putting on poor fights.
Spider Richards and burton would still be good opponents for Buatsi in this current climate. Better than a pointless blast out of a cab driver in 1 round. They learn nothing from those fights
Aye, I don't expect Buatsi to be in with any top contenders in this fight, but since he's headlining a show I do hope it's not some pointless knock-over job. I was going to say some decent domestic level competition would be fine, but there's not too many good, realistic options there either be honest. Burton and Conroy have their fights coming up in the golden contract tournament, plus he's already beaten Conroy anyway. You had Azeez and Sterling fight last night. Pitters and Arthur wouldn't be realistic promotionally and have just fought. Callum Johnson is still supposed to be fighting Mikhalkin next. Craig Richards would be an option, but struggling to think of anybody else domestically that's a viable option. Steven Ward? Ajisafe? The more I think of it, the less hopeful I am of a decent opponent actually. Would a foreigner like Chilemba or Shabransky be too much wishful thinking? Probably, unfortunately.
Good to see azeez and pitters doing well, definitely ones to come through after yarde, buatsi, Johnson
I saw a Matchroom tweet today with a video of Craig Richards on the pads and a quote from him saying he can't wait to get back in the ring or something. We know Buatsi's fight will be announced soon, so maybe this a hint towards Buatsi vs Richards.
This guy might be better than his record suggests but as an opponent to headline a card with one of you're brightest prospect/contenders is a bit naff imo..a fighter ranked in the top 100 wouldn't be 2 much to ask.
Wow, I've just seen the next few MR/SKY cards and can someone tell me what happened to Hearns new philosophy of more competitive fights being made??
As I've said previously, Buatsi'sgoing nowhere under Hearn. Hearn has nothing to offer him at 175 and Buatsi should look at going to a new promoter. Even Frank Warren, everyone's fvourite promoter on here could get him further.
Linus Udofia vs Harding about the best fight of all the ones announced I think. Obviously the Whyte Povetkin fight to quote eddie was "one of the most breathtaking fights I have seen" God I hate that rat
