I thought about this mythical matchup manay times over the last years, but never with other ppl in a forum.

Would Ward be that guy who finds to key to beat Calzaghe?
We know Joe is not liked by many ppl, but his record speaks for itself.
Jones jr was over the hill, Hopkins too but he was still very good.

Its a very difficlult choice to me...but for some reasons i do believe it would be very competitive and close...i cant pick a winner.

    You?

Is Ward protected like he was vs Kov?

If so then Andre Ward collapses his testicles with repeated low blows, surpassing the Golota tally from both his fights with Bowe combined. The ref is Ray Charles and therefore doesn’t see it.

That scenario aside, Joe would slap him into tomorrow on his way to a clear UD.

Sry my misatke. In Germany we dont say Light Heavyweight (word-to-word "Leichtschwergewicht"), we say "Halbschwergewicht", which means word-to-word "Half Heavyweight", so i did it wrong.

I ment in SMW (where Ward won the Super Six Tournament vs Dirrell, Abraham and Froch) about a decade ago.

I don't think Ward could deal with Calzaghe's workrate. Calzaghe close but clear.

I’ve gone back and forth but I think Ward outsmarts him, nicks it in a close fight

Ward by decision. Has all the tools to offset Calzaghe's engine.

Might have to go with Calzaghe by close decision. Calzaghe knew how to adapt and was also a smart ring general. Ward would make Calzaghe look bad but I still think Calzaghe would be able to do just enough to outwork Ward.
One things for sure, this could very well be an ugly fight with lots of clinching much like the Hopkins fight.

You have 2 unbeaten men who always found a way to win. It's a close fight for sure. Hard to pick a winner, lean Calzaghe but really you wouldn't be that confident putting your money down either way

Calzaghe UDs him, of that I am sure. Ward likes the plodders and Calzaghe had movement, fast reactions and fast hands. Ward would be working uphill the entire fight to keep up with zaggers' pace.

Good fight, but I'd pick the best version of Ward vs. the best version of Calzaghe.

The top 2 in their division's history, really. Always hard to pick a loser when we never saw either of them lose (and not come close to it either at this weight).

Ward has to not let Calzaghe get into his flow and he was really good at offsetting an opponent's rhythm - not always great to watch but pretty effective.

I'm really on the fence with this one. At the risking of hedging, I'll go Calzaghe but not with any confidence.

Ward makes Calzaghe look bad with footwork and angles. Having a good engine isn't just about throwing hands. Ward also had a very good engine as he was dynamic on his feet and always moved his upper body out of position after an attack. Moving all of his body around the ring for 3 mins of every round required a high endurance level .. . As well as being extremely well conditioned , he was a very versatile and intelligent boxer.

Calzaghe's slap happy style would be ineffective on Ward as it was on 43 year old Hopkins. Joe barely nicked that fight as Hopkins still had the ring craft to nullify his attack despite being on old legs.
There's really no doubt in my mind that Ward would beat Calzaghe after watching him struggle with old Hopkins.

The fight would actually look very similar to Mayweather vs Pacquaio and thats being generous to Joe as he wasn't as skilled as Pacman
