George Foreman 1973 vs Mike Tyson 1988, 15 Rounds. Does George manhandle Mike like he did to Joe in Kingston Jamaica, in January? Or does Tyson destroy George like he did to Michael Spinks in June 1988?

I just wanna mention something I've noticed whenever this topic comes up. A lot of people pick Foreman over Tyson because "styles make fights" and considering what Foreman did to Frazier, he should beat Tyson. But the same people who pick Foreman based on 'styles' will also pick Ali over Tyson because boxing isn't as simple as rock, paper, scissors. Just because Frazier beat Ali, it doesn't mean Tyson would beat him too. But Foreman would definitely beat Tyson since he dominated Frazier. If styles really do make fights, and that's the reason Foreman beats Tyson, then Tyson should be favoured to beat Ali.

 

I think this would be a battle of attrition, and though their punching power is close, I do not think their chins are. Tyson is much faster and has better stamina. But Tyson just had a fair chin imo. Foreman had an ATG chin, though it was only seriously tested on a few occasions. I think that Foreman and Tyson in a toe-to-toe fight, that the weaker-chinned, and less powerful Tyson would quickly wear from the pace, and be KO'd no later than 5.

 

You are right but at the same token people pick a prime Mike Tyson over everyone that he is matched against, the way it looks, he goes undefeated in all the threads. It cannot be both ways. He could not beat James Buster Douglas at 23, too many excuses. A real champion should be ready for all challengers, not the night life with Street Walkers.

I don't think Mike Tyson would fare well against any ATG in a 12-15 round fight. If he doesn't end it early (which i don't see him doing against Foreman) it's a mid-late round TKO

 

Iron Mike doesn't make it two rounds. He had no luck coming in any way but forward. His hand speed might make it so he lands a shot or two...

The problem is this, and I realize Frazier wasn't quite the all-around puncher Mike was: watch George jab, shove, and spin Frazier off balance. Though Mike was very strong, I'm not sure how much better he'd do against that kind of strategy. Joe just couldn't get set long enough to mount a sustained offense. Mike was a bit shorter than Joe...he'd end up getting shoved and bullied into shots. And Mike would take that uppercut about as badly as Frazier...except Mike wouldn't get up, clapping his gloves together and ready to fight like Joe. Mike proved over the years that once he got knocked down it was a just a matter of time before a stoppage.

Mike would come out, do the only thing he knew how to do (and to be completely fair to Mike as an undoubted ATG, what he did could be devastatingly effective in his prime), and probably land a couple of good shots, perhaps even making George pause a bit. But most of his blows would be knocked away by Foreman, and Mike would unquestionably have trouble with that jab. He'd probably go down in the first round once George gets his bearings...in the second he'd go down and stay down.

Mike was a great, great fighter but it's true, his way of fighting was perfect for George, and he just didn't have the flexibility of a fighter like Ali...the ability to change tactics mid-fight (besides maybe start becoming less aggressive and holding more when he learned he couldn't ko his opponent). George would practically paralyze him with the uppercut alone.

The post-Ali Foreman would have far more trouble. Not sure about 90s Foreman vs. prime Mike.

I think Tyson takes him out, Foreman was too wide open defensively to survive the early onslaught. Tyson in 5 in a brutal fight

 

Tyson had an excellent chin, Foreman had more heart for sure, but Tyson’s chin was seriously underrated, every time he was stopped he was taking an absolute beating and was exhausted, I don’t think Lyle would’ve had Tyson In the same trouble he had Foreman in

Both had power, both had chins, one had a better defense, one was more experienced against several styles...Tyson had the better tools.

 

Evander Holyfield physically manhandled Tyson, so he sure can't match George. Mike can't back Foreman up and George shoves him around and then you have Tyson standing right in front of George Foreman... Foreman by KO inside 4
