I'm not convinced that Prime Foreman hit any harder than Lennox Lewis

While I count George Foreman among the ATG heavyweight punchers, I do believe that his punching power gets exaggerated to mythical proportions. Reading posts on here, you would think that Foreman's uppercuts could grind cinder block walls into dust and that his left hook could turn over a city bus. While it's fully loaded with adult sized passengers.

Personally, I don't believe he hit any harder than Lewis. Foreman's best feats of punching power was stopping Frazier, Norton, Roman and Moorer. I'm confident in saying that Lewis could replicate those as well and may have even left them in a worse state. And look at Lewises destructions of Grant, Golota, Botha (who would have landed on the reporters table if not for the ropes) and it seems I'm forgetting someone else. But the point is, I'm just not seeing where Foreman is just in a class by himself so far above other ATG heavyweight punchers. I really don't.

There’s no difference so it matters.

I mean, Lewis was a massive puncher too. I would say Foreman probably hit a little harder, but what's the difference between an A and an A+, anyway?

Don't forget the Lyle and Chavulo fights, for demonstrations of George's power.

Foreman has more brute power IMO, but Lennox had the better accuracy and technique. In terms of rating them as punchers there’s not much to separate them, but in terms of just rating there power I’d give Foreman the edge

Yeah I forgot about those last 2 fights. But I think Lewis gets the same results.

I think Lennox hit harder and was more concusive. His punches were technically better and he turned them over. Foreman swings his but he didn't turn his fist over and sit on them in the way Lennox did. Lennox is also significantly heavier and imo more explosive

Holyfield claimed that old Foreman hit harder than Lewis.

Now if he is right, then we would have to conclude that he same is true of young Foreman.

If Foreman was as precise and as good at setting up punches as Lewis was I think he would have hit harder. I saw an interview of a guy who sparred Frazier and Foreman, he said Frazier hit harder because he hit you with cleaner shots while foreman had more brute force

Beat me to it. There is a common opponent here who shed light on the issue already.

Let's say everyone agreed with you that Lewis hit about the same as Foreman.

What difference does it make? Lewis still brutally stopped Tyson. We both know that's the only reason you started this discussion.

it’s very hard in general to compare the exact amount of power one fighter exerted over another. I think that both Lennox Lewis and George Foreman hit exceptionally hard and both had very different delivery systems.

I actually believe that old Foreman may have hit harder but didn't have the speed and explosiveness he had when younger.

Frazier hit harder? That's a new one.

I think hammering the durable George Chuvalo to a stoppage was a significant display of Foreman’s power but I won’t say who hit harder either way
