I truly believe Adonis Stevenson would have brutally stopped Beterbiev. A come-forward fighter with leaky defense is tailor made for a hard-hitting counter-puncher like Stevenson. Beterbiev would walk into left hands all night, going down at least once, until the ref mercifully stops it.
I'm a fan of both Adonis and Arthur, but Adonis is not durable enough to win against Beterbiev. It'll come down to who can take more punishment. Stevenson has more one punch power but I see Beterbiev getting up each time he gets knocked down. Where as it will take only one or two clean shots from Beterbiev to make Stevenson wilt.
He has, but by big punchers (and one was a flash knockdown/balance issue), but always got back to his feet, and recovered strong. Beterbiev is granite, he is very durable. The punches Gvodnyk hit him with would have really affected any other opponent.
I could see Beterbiev touching the canvas but, the instant that Beterbiev gets Adonis in even the slightest bit of trouble, it's all over. Beterbiev is like the ****ing Terminator!
Stevenson had one of the strangest careers I have ever seem. In his prime he fought nobodys once a year to keep his title and then when turning 40 he all the sudden started fighting quality opponent after quality opponent.
That straight left would have found its home way too easily, Beterbiev would struggle to get into the range where he’s effective. Horrible style match for him.
easy fight for beter. Adonis would have had a better chance against prime sergey, that would have been a great fight.
Just like he brutally stopped Badou Jack? Common man, Beterbiev is not one of those journeyman type fighters that Stevenson was sparking out. There are levels to this game and it took Stevenson way too long to start fighting top level competition. By the way, Beterbiev is not just a come forward fighter with leaky defense. You haven't paid enough attention to the subtle skill of Beterbiev.
I might be a bit biased, because I really don't see anything special in Beterbiev. To me, he's a slow, crude plodder with poor defense.
Okay, I respect your opinion but you are selling Beterbiev quite short. Granted, he does have a bit of that basic European style but he actually does a lot of things well in the ring. 1. Beterbiev throws his punches nice and tight and he does not load up to generate power because he so damn heavy-handed. 2. Beterbiev is excellent at feinting his way into punching range and jabbing to the body. He broke down Gvozdyk by doing these two things. 3.Beterbiev has very good timing. At times, Beterbiev was actually outboxing Gvozdyk because he has the superior timing. 4. Beterbiev does not move his head much but he has a good sense of distance to avoid most oncoming fire plus he has a solid guard. Beterbiev would most likely get caught in exchanges due to his mediocre head movement. If this thread was about Joe Smith Jr., you would certainly have a point and I would have agreed with you.
Beterbiev would spark Adonis out as soon as he grazed that chin. He might have been dropped by Callum Johnson but CJ could fell a tree with those heavy hooks of his and Beterbiev has already fought just as many punchers in his 15 fights as Adonis did in over double that amount if not more and he hasn't been knocked out in 2 by a journeyman either. Look what Artur did to common opponent Cloud. Adonis couldn't even floor Cloud once but Artur was able to drop him multiple times (and that was the first time Cloud had ever been off his feet) and blew him out in under four minutes and apparently even broke his jaw too. Yeah of course you can make the argument Adonis fought a better version of Cloud but Artur was but a mere 5-0 novice at the time and I'd wager he would've done that to any version of Cloud because I've been following him closely since the 2008 Olympics and I've been aware of what an absolute wrecking machine he was for a very long time. You see what you guys see him doing in the pros I'd been seeing him doing in the amateurs whilst wearing pillows and headguards for a long time. Adonis obviously punches like a motherbeeper too but I don't see him lasting too long in this one at all.
