How good would Oscar Bonavena be in the 1980s?

At some point Tyson would have destroyed him if Oscar reached that far or was a titlist as Tyson climbed the ranks, he may have met Holmes or Spinks in the mid 80`s in a title clash, either fight would have been close, don`t know if he could have beaten those fighters at that stage, he may have fought both of them, he may have met the guys Tyson beat for the titles, again those would be 50/50 fights, if he beat Tubbs or Spoon to win a title then he may have gone on to defend against Bruno in another pick em, so all in all probably a similar career to the won he had in the 70`s except with a better chance at snatching a title for a short while.

 

He might make it as a contender, no more than that.

 

A tough man, contender level, would lose to the champs like Holmes, Mike Spinks, Tyson etc, but imo, with a chance to snatch a belt vs a Coetzee, Page or Dokes type on a good night.

 

If he challenged Tyson or Holmes, it's a no brainer.
If he took on some of the alphabet boys?,then it's fifty fifty imo.

 

Probably the same. Was a hell of a fighter in any era. Bonavena on roids is a scary thought. Prob losses to the likes of Holmes and Tyson. It would be interesting to see him against both though

 

Tyson was far too good for Oscar.

 

He might beat some contenders, but as you said he gets wasted by Tyson and Holmes.

 

He beat Tyson and lost agains Holmes.
Lose against the likes Holyfield or Lennox but beat Bowe,Golota,Mercer and McCall.
Him with steroids,skills and modern training...he would maybe kill someome

Beat Tyson because he was better at everything like Holyfield was.
Better chin,strenght,inside game,stamina and fearless.
Oscar beat Chuvalo and maybe Frazier in their first fight,Flloey and Martin also.

 

Tyson had a far better defense than Chuvalo and he was better finisher than Oscar and he was one of the greatest combo punchers in heavyweight history, different level completely.

 

Tyson had better defense but Chuvalo had better chin,stamina,heart and endurance
He was great finisher,so great that he was stopped by bum Buster Douglas and couldn't beaf bum Tillis and chin chinned Ruddock that is how good finisher he was.
His combos inly worked on bums and sparing fighter but when he meet fighter fearless,good chin,strenght,stamina and heart his combos didn't worked!
