Anthony Joshua vs 1974 George Foreman

The real question is - who gasses first !

 

I’m going with AJ, he’s all round better than foreman when it comes to boxing skills, and the ruiz rematch showed that Joshua can pace himself so he likely tko’s a gassed foreman in the later rounds

 

If AJ came to trade he could be knocked out if he came to box and got on his bike I could see him winning on points.

 

Yea that can happen as well but Joshua wins 8/10 times imo

 

Foreman got KO'd by Ali. AJ can definitely turn his lights out.
AJ got TKO'd by Tubby Taco. Foreman can definitely turn his lights out.

AJ is bigger, stronger, rangier and gets hit less. So I'm going for my boy Big Joshie. After beating Foreman, the WASP capitalists will decide AJ doesn't have a big enough fortune from being a low IQ prize fighter and they'll attach his name to an electronic crumpet maker and give him another fortune for fun, just like the ******s did with the Foreman grill in America.

 

The game plan for Joshua is obvious, box, move, do not engage at all because if he thought Ruiz Jr hit hard he's in for a shock when Foreman hit's him. It's one thing to out box the diminutive Ruiz who has no jab and is more a counter puncher unlike Foreman who's bigger, has the bigger reach, a jab as good if not better than Joshua's and is used to forcing the fight.

Even in the rematch Ruiz Jr had his moments and was able to catch and hurt Joshua, can Joshua really do that vs the much better and more dangerous Foreman. I have my doubts if I'm honest. A key skill to beating Foreman was being able to tie him up. Foreman's style is to manhandle smaller, weaker opponents so they can't set to throw and push them into positions where they are vulnerable to his huge blows. Ali and Young both utilised clinching as key parts of their game to stifle Foreman and preventing him from controlling them physically and so were able to survive his brutal attacks which overwhelmed everyone else.

Joshua of course isn't a clincher, like Ali and Young. But what he is, is huge and strong, one of the few heavies who can match Foreman for strength I'd say. So he might not be able to clinch and tie Foreman up to take away much of his offense but he can do what Lyle did and be too big and strong to easily manhandle and therefore compete when trading to a certain degree.

So I don't think Joshua can out box Foreman for 12 rounds like Ruiz Jr. He'll start off well and win the early rounds but eventually Foreman is going to get into his groove and start hurting Joshua, very likely drop him. But unlike many opponents Foreman faced, Joshua has the size, strength, power and inside skills to not be overwhelmed easily, he'll be able to hurt Foreman back when Foreman goes for the kill and that's what could keep Joshua in the fight for long enough to recover and get back to out boxing Foreman until Foreman gets to him again and get to him again he will.

I suspect the fight would end up being a war. Joshua can't outbox Foreman for 12 rounds by the middle rounds he'll find himself in another dog fight but one where he has the offensive tools to do well in. So who wins? Hard to say, maybe one of them gasses first and the other takes over but which one gasses first is anyone's guess both have stamina issues, though Foreman does seem capable at fighting at a higher intensity and work rate. Maybe Foreman's superior durability is the key to winning and much like the Lyle fight he simply out lasts Joshua who won't be able to take Foreman's shots as well as Foreman will take his.

If I had to bet on one man it would be Foreman. He's more proven and I think his superior chin might be the thing that keeps him in a tough fight longer than Joshua.

The way AJ slipped Wlad's looping punches bodes well for him here. On the other hand Wlad threw them one at a time, and Foreman will bring them at a wholesale discount quantity.

 

Yeah that's definitely an issue with facing Foreman which is why being able to tie him up is pretty crucial. Slipping or even absorbing one shot maybe doable but the follow up shots that he rains down on you, sometimes from awkward angles is another. If you can't get out of the way or tie him up you're going to end up trading with him and that's not something any heavyweight wants to do.

 

Foreman KO ... Dont even think this requires an explanation really

 

Glass chins don’t take right hands, left hooks and overhand rights from Klitschko and Povetkin. Don’t be naive.

 

Foreman 1974 might gas if it goes into the later rounds, but does it reach that far? AJ won't have the durability of Ali so the plan would be to box and use the ring. I'm not that sure of AJ's stamina in a hard fight either. Imo, he would have to trade more and more eventually and when that happens, my guess would be that George successfully cuts the ring off, traps Joshua on the ropes more and more and stops him with big shots in maybe 7 or 8 rounds.
