But think about this T. The fighters he faced were either 2nd-3rd raters or fighters like Mugabi and Jackson that were well past their primes. Who did he face that we can point too and say thats a great win? Even the power punching rep is suspect when considering he landed shot after shot on Benn a fighter he was expected to destroy. The same N.Benn that was stopped by fighters not considered to be ko punchers in Watson and Eubanks.
Is the rep as this "great" Ko artist deserved, or because of the tragic events of the Benn fight and what happened to him, We give him a pass?
When his record is looked at without the sympathy of the tragic events after the Benn fight its very suspect. To say the least .
I think we should look at his history without the sympathy of the tragic events after his loss to Benn.
To put it another way, if Benn had only just stopped Mccellean, and he wasn't seriously hurt. Would he be seen as this awesome destroyer most make him out to be.
I don't think he would, and his history would've been scrutinized on just the facts of his record and not clouded by sympathy.

Dont think i can agree tbh. Gerald was defo a power puncher...was there to see on video. Mugabi and jackson twice we,re great wins...think jackson was only about 30 at the time and mugabi 33. We,re still both great fighters. Plus footage of mclellan sparring toney...you could see he was a seriously good fighter who was pretty much marred with a bad attitude. Probably half the reason he lost the two fights that he did before benn cause he went on to beat better fighters in mugabi and jackson. Even the benn fight theres been a lot of reports his problems actually came off the back of the jackson fight...who knows if thats true or not tho...but wouldnt be a massive surprise bearing in mind how hard jackson hit.

Even the benn fight....his set up was amatuerish at best. Think with gerald it was more a case of what could have been as opposed to he,s overated. The weight making was a problem as well. He didnt really need to do it the way he did...gerald had enough skills to not need that massive weight advantage over his opponents. Reckon he could have and should have been one of the greats....just too many problems with him to fulfill his full potential. Think steward even said it himself...might have even said he could of been the best of them all.

He struggled with too many subpar competitors that’s my problem, he isn’t this amazing H2H GOAT he’s a great champion without a doubt tho.

You say he beats everyone but Ali and Louis? you say that with so much confidence like it’s a common fact I believe Foreman, Fraizer and Tyson all slaughter him.

I’ve seen some threads where people pick him to beat Tyson, Lewis, Jones, and other fighters he doesn’t have a chance against.

Well, I think Fury is not bad. He had ring rust and was assumed as underdog when fight with W had been contracted. Still he surprised me because he performed better than I assumed. With fight vs Wallin he had earned my respect. He was able to show ring IQ and ability to adapt after he had to get serious cuts. Fury is from U.K therefore he did not get that much insults like Briedis had get after fight with Perez. If Perez was weaker in clinch game, this does not means that Briedis should be considered as dirty fighter and just beacuse Perez is from larger country, dirty heatbutter in internet forums appeared to be almost manadatory underdog for record padding Briedis from small country.
Fury also had showed that he had improved also in his fight vs Wilder II.
And yeah, boxing fans love athletic and nice looking boxers but seriously undervalued and unnecessary disrespected boxer is Ruiz.
Initially was assumed in internet media: LOL, fat out of shape, someone bulky outside of top 10 for a tittle defense fight as an opponent.
LOL, what upset happened and in second fight vs A.J both they were BETTER boxers and showed improved skills if compare with their first fight. /
Maybe Fury is not GOAT but his ring IQ is high, not lesser than for Ruiz or A.J.
From marketing perspective Fury now is No#1 because he is undefeated. A.J had been finished, despite he is also former amateur superstar de facto, Ruiz had lost fights on points, forums might call Ruiz as ppl in forums wish but he never had been finished! Never!

Come on brother , Mugabi wasn't close to the fighter he was prior to Hagler in 86" he was K'oed by Thomas and Norris in the 3rd and 1st rd respectively. Fighters not noted for vicious punching power.
He feasted on a few no hope type fighters in between Thomas, Norris and McClellan to build his record and regain his confidence. But Hagler pretty much ruined him.
His age wasn't a major but what he loss or what Hagler took from him was his confidence, each time he had serious adversity after Hagler he folded.
Jackson never had a great chin, and was past his prime by the time McClellan got him. His power saved him a few times when opponents not considered serious punchers had him seriously hurt.
Also McClellan looked like a Lt. Heavyweight in comparison to Jackson, who was at his best at Jr.Middle.
Benn was hurt in multiple fights and stopped twice by two fighters not considered dynamic punchers.
Yet McClellan, this destructive force of a puncher couldn't keep Benn down? Ended up getting ko'ed himself?
Other than those 3 clearly flawed fighters , who else did he fight that would make one sit up and take notice?
I hate what happened to McClellan, I saw the fight when it happened. And I once had the opinion of him being a great puncher.
But the more I began to think about it, and looked closer at his competition strictly from a neutral position, not from sympathy from his last fight. I saw a lot of question marks.
But this is my opinion, and I understand and respect your view.
