Fite TV/Showtime PPV: Jermall DeAndre Charlo vs. Sergiy Vyacheslavovich Derevyanchenko RBR

Just watched this morning. Jermall 116-112, quite a few close rounds but Jermall landed the cleaner, harder work and that heavy, heavy jab of his. SD is tougher than a truck stop steak, his face was an absolute mess. He is built to eat shots and just keep on coming. Love that dude. Thought Jermall might finish him late if he pushed harder, but really good fight all in all. I thought Mall looked good.

Jermell just keeps dropping and stopping dudes since he moved to Derrick James. Weird KO, but not surprised, I've seen Rosario live twice and other than having power, I was not impressed by his boxing skills, and he's not good defensively. I'll watch the rest of the card later this morning.

 

He used to be so much better as an overall boxer. I have another comparison he's he 154 pound version of wilder. Jermell like wilder has fallen in love with his power and spends too much time loading up looking for the perfect ko punch. He seems content with losing rounds so he can set up the perfect shot and get the ko. He needs to go back to boxing and working behind his jab because like wilder you can't knock everyone out and it will come back to haunt you.

 

Harrison outboxed him twice. Now Rosario was doing the same.
Trout and John Jackson schooled him.
Vanes kept it razor close and many felt he should have won that.
Demetrius Hopkins also nearly pulled off the upset.

Jermall is the far superior boxer.

 

It’s been this way since he left Ronnie. His volume has went down and he just loads up on everything now and doesn’t even try to box and win rounds. I’ve heard Derrick say numerous times they want to make Mell’s shots count and they worked a lot on him sitting down on his shots, but good lord, man...you can still be technical and box and win rounds. Jermell is obsessed with throwing bombs. Mall is so much better technically and a much better boxer than Mell is these days.

 

Yeah but it didn't always used to be that way earlier in their careers jermell was the more skilled boxer and jermall was more crude and limited. Now it looks like jermall is the better boxer he counters better uses his jab better and has a nasty uppercut and just better all around. Now that I look back at it leaving Ronnie Shields was a horrible decision he would have been better with him.

 

Smfh, Grow up man...your scoring sucked this fight, obviously, but it’s not personal.

Charlo-Derev

The commentary from the PBC cast on this fight was disgraceful. Honestly some of the most one sided calling I think I've ever heard. Talking how his power is a 'different breed' to the rest of the division and just ignoring any work Derev was doing. Ray Flores sucks anyway but he really ruined the fight for me. The 118-110 card as well, just grimly predictable. I had it 7-5 Charlo. His jab has gotten better and he shot some nice counters. Derev came on strong toward the end and did a good job on the inside. It's a legit good win for Charlo that he deserved, ruined by the scoring somewhat

Roman-Payano

I thought Payano stole that 7-5 personally. He built up a strong early lead on my card. Fun, high level boxing on display there, really enjoyed it. I'm not sure on the rules about the KD. The punch landed before the bell but he didn't drop until after so I thought that it didn't matter.

Charlo's power bails him out again. Well, in this case I think it's more Rosario not being able to take a shot at all which has been displayed plenty of time in the past. He didn't look comfortable being put under pressure. I'm significantly less sold on this particular Charlo, though he got the win still which is the key thing.

Completely agree. The trunks were way too high. Personally, rather than say, punches here are ok because your trunks are too high, the rules ought to be that trunks can't be that high, lower the trunks because it benefits fighters who have their trunks high. A thick waistband buffers the blow.

 

Jermell was clinching a lot last night — looked like he was hurt several times. Does he normally clinch so much?

Yeah, you sometimes hear the ref say "trunks are a little high" right before the opening bell. But the ref also is in the dressing room of each fighter before the fight. You think fighters raise them before the enter the ring and after the ref leaves?

 

Chenko is a great inside fighter so you want to limit your time in there if you can. Charlo was also the bigger man so why not tie and lean on the smaller man. With that said i do think chenko hurt him with a shot to the body in that fight.

 

I was talking about Jermell. But Jermall was definitely tiring and the work SD was putting in was paying off late.
