Gerry Cooney used to knockout guys with body shots. Broke some ribs too. But I don’t think he’d last long enough against vitali to get the job done.. Then again weird things happened to Klirschko in the ring
Tyson with body shots. However, it would be competitive. I am not a Vitali fan but its hard to see anyone under 200 lbs beating him. Size is overrated but it does matter to some extent. Its very hard to say a smaller fighter with short arms (no matter how great) beating Vitali. Tyson is an exception. Then again Tyson's footspeed, handspeed and power combination was one in a million, and he was 215-220 lbs.
Sanders pushed him down clearly, it wasn't a knock down. Watch the film! Also Vitali had one bad cut his entire amateur and pro career, how does that equate to being cut prone. Even Ali lost a fight on cuts in the amateurs. The title of the thread says, " Who would you pick to chop Vitali down." The problem is Vitali was never down or behind on the score cards after three rounds for his entire pro career. VK's defense is very under rated. He moves well and defends well. The answer could be Lewis as he was a top level over who had top power. Or maybe a prime Larry Holmes.
How is it easier to put pressure on a 6’7 power puncher with good boxing skills and an iron chin? A slick boxer isn’t gonna make you as hesitant to being aggressive as much as a super heavyweight power puncher is. Vitali has also never been anyone’s stationary punching bag, but the first one to do it is gonna be a cruiserweight who wasn’t even hard to hit? No
It is easier to put pressure on 6ft 7 because he do not move and he do not know how to fight inside because of his size.He was not known as a super puncher since his best wins are old Briggs and old Hide.He was strong guy but not a power puncher.A slick boxer would constantly land and run and know how to clinch and fight inside or outside while Vitali does not.He was punching bag for older Lewis and old Byrd and he lost both fights being a punching bag according to his face.Vitali also did not have very good stamina like his younger brother. Well Marciano was very hard to hit according to everyone he fought and even Stewart and Dundee said that.Same sized CW called Byrd left same man bloody mess and Marciano was harder to hit and harder hitter with even better inside game and stamina.
Lewis (Rahman II version) Tyson (Holmes version) Bowe (Holyfield I/II/III version) Holyfield (Tyson I version) Fury (Wilder II version) Ali (Foreman version) Foreman (Frazier I / II version) Holmes (Cooney version) and other 5 or 6 fighters
He was actually ahead on all the cards in the Lewis and Byrd fights where he was apparently a “punching bag”. He was prone to getting cut which might give the illusion of him getting beat up but he was winning both of those fight convincingly for a “punching bag”. So in other words, he was never a stationary target against anyone, and he was winning both fights where he supposedly was one. Also having good inside game against cruiser weights is gonna be a lot different than having good infighting against skilled super heavyweights. Even if rocky gets in the inside on Vitali it wouldn’t be hard all to back rocky up since he was way stronger than him. With today’s standards rocky wouldn’t even be allowed to fight Vitali
VK was stopped twice by the two best fighters he met in the Ring. Fact. Could would should.....one more time he was stopped by the two best fighters he ever met.............a aging Lewis carved him up like a Thanksgiving Turkey. VK has no inside game, is a arm puncher and does not clinch......his lean back defense worked against washed up old short plodders but Lewis exposed VK's lack of defense when meeting a tall skilled fighter who brings the heat. Prime Ali, Foreman, Holmes ,Tyson, Lewis stop him, Holyfield will decision him.
Lennox Lewis George Foreman Possibly Riddick Bowe, but I still pick V Klitschko to win against Bowe Nobody else IMO There are others I would pick to beat him Lennox Lewis George Foreman Tyson Fury Muhammad Ali Evander Holyfield but I make it 50.09/49.9 in Holyfield’s favour Just not by chopping him down to the body, they may throw body shots, but most of them not with vicious intent, just point scoring except Lewis and Foreman
Holyfield would really dig into the body. Foreman said he was the second hardest body puncher he’s faced
I can see Foreman a popular choice but i don't know why(Maybe some fans ignore the objectivity.) First of all Foreman never beat a good bigger guy and in his prime an over the hill Ali knocked him out. The prime Foreman was slow with a questionable stamina All in all i think the prime vitali Klitschko- who had excellent stamina, chin and work-rate - was H2H the better fighter.
Frazier, definitely, but this would be a great fight. Not sure on prime Foreman. Curiously, I pick the best of the 90s Foreman to give him a rough time. The stamina problem wasn't as pronounced as in his prime, he used his jab more, his chin was markedly better. Holy wouldn't quit. I give it to him. Holmes would have cut him to shreds, same with Ali. Louis would have pulverized him, and perhaps Sonny as well.
