Yes he was, stop hating him.
The 92 Bowe that beat Holy was certainly better than a 92 Lewis. Lewis only became the complete package after teaming with Steward.

Amateur bouts are totally irrelevant. Plus that was an early unjustified stoppage.

It's not just what I believe, it is quite clear to everyone that Bowe peaked earlier.

Meldrick Taylor after the first JCC fight. He was never the same.

Aaron Pryor had offers to fight both Sugar Ray Leonard and Roberto Duran in 80' and 81' but he held out for more money and missed out on both opportunities. I'm not saying he would have beaten both but I believe he would have had an excellent chance to win not to mention each offer was 750k which was quite bit back then.

Both of those fights could have made him a mega star had he knocked off either one of those guys. With that said, he still got the win against Arguello in a classic fight that was somewhat tarnished by that piece of **** Panama Lewis and the water bottle that he did bit need to win.

As great as Pryor was, he just couldn't get out of his own way and messed up his own career multiple times.

Pryor was very great and could have given both of those guys terrific fights a couple of years later. But at that time I see Duran running over him and Leonard winning a handy UD. He wasn't ready for them. So, despite the cash he would have had a couple of losses on his record, I think the Duran would have been particularly embarrassing...for him.

I agree that both Duran and Leonard would be favorites but I would not have been surprised by a Pryor win in either of those fights. Those certainly would have been career paydays for him as well. Duran vs Pryor would have been a lot of fun.

Arron Pryor beat Tommy Hearns in the amateur rank. Do you believe he had a chance as a pro?
But I do like Lewis's chances much better than I like Pryors lol.

Billy Conn dropping down off his toes and slugging with Joe Louis in their first fight. Conn would have become immortal had he boxed his way to a decision that he had all but won.
Also, Yvonne Durelle letting crafty Archie Moore talk him out of victory in their first fight when Durelle had him down 4 times and ready to go for good.
For a split second, Jack Sharkey turning to complain to the Ref after Dempsey hit him low.

Bowe always loses to Lennox he never wanted that fight. Mercer talks about it they roomed together in the Olympic and Bowe was also nervous and unsure of himself which is why Ray thought he would beat Bowe if they fought. Bowe was beat by Lennox in the Olympics and never got over it even if he could have beat Lewis he would be mentally beat before the opening bell.

Looks to me like Bowe was fine at the end of the fight. The commentators were shocked that sorry ass ref stopped the fight.
