If Callum Johnson got stopped by Beterbiev then Buatsi is getting sent to Noddy Land.

Buatsi showed his limitations when someone actually took it to him and he was very lucky last night, Beterbiev, Johnson, even Yarde, they'd deal with him, he seems like a nice enough bloke though but that counts for nothing when you're getting your head caved in repeatedly.

this might be a blessing in disguise for buatsi and his handlers tbh because the hype around him is clearly bull squirt and this fight proved it. Get him in with a top 50 next and let's see if he's ready to improve.

I think stylistically Yarde would have also have found that lad a very difficult opponent last night. I’m not convinced on Yarde but I honestly thought there might be a bit more about Buatsi so last night was technically really disappointing. The amount of times he got caught with the right hand was just silly. It was the same shot every time and he had no answer for it. He didn’t adapt at all. To his credit he did dig deep and showed his will to win despite the adversity so his heart and character is there. He needs to stay away from Callum Johnson though, cos he’ll have no problem finding him with that right hand.

Just to add, like Yarde, we don’t know what his gas tank is like yet. Never gone beyond 7 rounds.

But his career is more than one fight. He has knocked out a few euro/world level guys in one round.

Good fight last night and one that Buatsi needed, especially with such a long period of time out of the ring. This Calic was better than I expected, I didn't know a whole lot about him but he was absolute huge for the weight (makes sense given his background as a HW in the amateurs), awkward and he had fast hands.

You need fights like that which will give you problems and a gut check on the way up. The mistake with Yarde is he fought a load of bus drivers then jumped in with an established seasoned world level fighter.

Hopefully Buatsi can get out again in December depending on how bad the eye is.

Dave Allen will end the Babic hype if Tom Little doesn't do so beforehand!

Buatsi showed some grit in there and didn't panic when an opponent returned fire against him.

He's also a decent puncher and offensively he looks great.

Major concerns for me are his whiskers and a really poor defence.

Defence he can work on but at the moment, he's several fights away from a world title fight imo. I expect Hearn is waiting for Beterbiev to show signs of significant decline before he starts being more vocal about a potential fight.

Most likely but he should fight with some fighters from top 50, top 100 before this.

Yeah, again old tale, waiting untile some guys are out of prime.
Until this below top 100 in boxrec ranked guys might be banged.
WTF, guy is not even in boxrec top 100 and is scheduled for 10, 12 rounders vs highly ranked prospect.
    Boring.

Buatsi is a fair way off from proper world championship level and his camp should be aware of this . In fairness he had been out for over a year and Calic I thought was fairly decent.

Took quite a few right hands in there last night and Callum Johnson can punch like **** , he doesn't want to be getting caught flush by him too often.

First time seeing Buatsi last night, clearly there's some talent there and he showed heart to come back from being outboxed and constantly hit with flush rights but he looks too upright for me, almost no head movement and despite his record clearly not a big puncher. Hope last night was a wake up call that a fighter with 12 pro fights isn't ready for a world title shot, major improvement needed.

He'll have to postpone his planned trip on Eddie's Pay Per Pudding Express en route to Lootville.

He’s gone 12 with plenty of euro level fighters and I can’t remember him knocking out a single world level fighter in one round. Not that I’m meaning to have a go at Callum Smith or anything. Nothing against him other than the fact it’s frustrating waiting for him to have a big fight. He’s not done a great deal other than beat an injured Groves. Was hoping he’d kick on from there but nope...

As for Buatsi, I thought he was dire. Was losing rounds. The croatian was a decent fighter and came to win but the ease with which he was landing right hands was embarrassing. Buatsi is good offensively though, he’s a great finisher, also showed he can grit his teeth when the going gets tough. The Croatian was awkward, huge at the weight...probably a bad choice of opponent really, was always going to be hard to look good against. If fancy him to cause Yarde problems too.

I still think Buatsi beats Yarde. Someone suggested we don’t know how good Buatsi’s gas tank is but he seems to fight at a relatively decent pace and didn’t look tired in the 7th. This guy seemed tough and he didn’t seem to be worried about conserving energy in case it went 12. I think Buatsi will be ok stamina wise. Has a boxers physique. Just not sure about his defence. The way he was patting his eye was like he’d not been punched before.

I still have faith in Buatsi, he came through his first mini test tonight, still think he's a top talent and will win a world title at some stage and go on to have a good career.

He's got fast hands, very good punch selection and his combination punching is excellent. He fights at a high tempo throughout and is a volume puncher so his stamina won't be an issue I don't think at least not at this stage of his career. 7 rounds into a tough high tempo fight he showed no sign whatsoever of tiring. I disagree that his power is overrated. While he's no Beterbiev he is (IMO) a big puncher and clearly heavy handed.

I think there's a tendency to be overly critical because the opponent was unknown and Josh had a difficult period in the fight during the third round. He was in control of that fight though, as soon as he started to target the body more actively 4th round onwards he hurt Calic and it was just a question of when he'd stop him. I think it was the big right hand towards the end of the 5th round that broke Calic's jaw? He could have stopped him in the 6th if he jumped on him then.

He's not a counter puncher, he's a front foot fighter so when he has a taller opponent and has to close the distance he's always going to get hit at some point, Calic landed a few decent right hands but to be fair a lot of what he threw was partially blocked and deflected he didn't land a lot clean.

I think Buatsi beats Yarde, Callum Johnson is a true 50-50.

The winner of Craig Richards vs Shakan Pitters would be a good but winnable fight for Buatsi, he needs another 2-3 fights at a good competitive level before he steps up to a world title.

I thought he did ok. It will do him good when he is in with the best in the division. I think the callum Johnson fight is a must for next year. Johnson isn't the most active fighter.

I think the next one should be the same level as he has just fought. I would then throw him in with Johnson for the European belt. Its a great fight and if he comes through he is ready for the champions in the division.

I think buatsi did fine and you’re massively overreacting
