Roy was far more capable of ending a fight with one punch, and had a history of stopping guys known for their chins. Thomas Tate, Sugar Boy Maligna, Tony Thorton, Merqui Sosa, Virgil Hill, all those guys were known as durable. None of em saw the late rounds. George Foreman once observed that Jones wasn't even putting his full body into his left hook - in mainly came from the shoulders. Meaning, he had similar freak power as Hamed. Golovkin was more of a heavier handed (and less skilled) Chavez, in that he wore you down to the body first. Name ONE GUY Golovkin stopped who was known for their durability. Jones was a bigger puncher.
Taking myself out of it, which boxing list or article says Jones was among the best 10 punchers ever at middleweight? I can find some that say GGG.
As selected by The Ring magazine in the 2003 Ring Yearbook, Roy Jones Jr. is listed as the 89th Greatest Puncher of All Time.
GGG wasn't pro back then so what does it matter? If he was he would rate higher. Let's try it this way, can someone show me ANY middle puncher list or article where Jones is above GGG?

Golovkin's lack of top-tier competition is a known factor. As has already been requested on this thread: Name the opponents Golovkin stopped, who were known for their durability.

He's the only guy to stop Martirosiyan. He's the only guy to stop Monroe (who was in with Boone). He's the only guy to stop Murray. He's the only guy to stop Adama. He's the only guy to stop Ishida, who has fought as high as heavy. In addition he took the "0"s of unbeaten fighters KOing them in the process. GGG undoubtedly punches harder than RJJ. What RJJ has in his favour is his unpredictibility and speed. Jones is more likely than Golovkin to catch a guy unawares with a speedy punch or sneaky punch than Golovkin is. That is a quality on its own that is arguably more useful than sheer power. However, for sheer power, Golovkin is visibly the harder hitter and his record bears that out.
Think I'll just leave this here: Spoiler Jones KOed Sosa with one punch. The same guy who wouldn't budge while fighting toe to toe with the best of his era. Sugar Boy Malinga took the best Benn, Eubank, Reid, Rocchigiani & Jarvis could dish out. Jones iced him with one punch. Thomas Tate is the only man to finish twelve rounds with Julian Jackson, and in it he took hellacious full blown punches from a man you imply is top three with GGG, and Jones leveled him, again, with one punch. Virgil Hill, a guy who took the best from Tiozzo, Ashely, Mormeck, Michalczewski &c; before Jones took him out with a single body punch. Don't get me wrong, none of the aforementioned are great fighters, but they're all big Punchers and men much bigger than Jones. They couldn't do what he could. Enough? There's more. Reggie Johnson, a middleweight who went twelve with Tarver, was dropped twice by Jones. Even a guy like Mike McCallum, with his granite chin which went to war, unscathed, with Julian Jackson. Jones dropped him. Undefeated Griffin who took big shots of Jones himself, and while shot went 12 with Antonio Tarver, was KOed in one, by one punch. The icing on the cake is that a shot Jones, devoid of his blazing hand-speed was hurting a genuinely granite chinned cruiserweight, Denis Lebedev, with straight rights. And he did it multiple times. Even in their primes (let's say, for argument's sake, before their losses), both had KO% of above 85%. Jones' power > GGG's.

You asked me to name the opponents Golovkin stopped, who were known for their durability Martin Murray was only stoped once by GGG Vanes Martirosyan was only stopped once by GGG. Combined these two had 86 fights, only one man stopped them. I think that is proof enough , don't you agree? The mark of a puncher is one who stops him many faster than most before him. Study up on GGG's record and you'll see. Another mark of a puncher is a man with a high KO %, Check the box for GGG again, and considering how many title bout he has had a KO% this high says it all. Jones was not in his class as a puncher, not even loaded up on PED's. Roy tested 5x the legal limit.
