Capturing world title honors is the ultimate goal, but is a million dollar (or more) payday, win or lose, a close second?

Probably the primary goal for a pro and i'm cool with that. It's prize fighting after all.

Interesting; so based on how you view boxing today, the top goal is one mill, while the second is a world title?

I think for most fighters a world title is a means to earning a mill and looking at the background of most boxers and the sacrifices you have to make to become a world title holder I think that's fair enough.

I would not put the figure of a million as the goal, they are in the pro game so like any employment they want to earn as much as possible, a boxers career is a short one after all.

However fighting for a title generally earns you the best purse so in a way, money and title goes hand in hand.

A million may be a goal, but to get a million you have to find someone willing to pay you that amount, if you aren't title material, then you are going to need to have a 'unique selling point'

The goal is to make decent money. Anything else is extra.

Posters here have no clue... It's just a guessing game. The question could only be answered truthfully by fighters.

"Furys are bread to fight, it’s definitely in the blood. I don’t fight for money, I don’t fight for fame, I don’t fight for glory, I fight because I love it. I love getting punched in the face, I love tasting blood, I love hurting people. That sounds mad doesn’t it? To me, fighting is my life, I don’t do nothing else. I can’t function without fighting.”

The pro fighters I've known fought for peanuts. They complained about the money they earnt, but I would say that the goal in their minds, what they talked about, the thing that made their eyes glow was.... the national championship title. Not a million dollars, they didnt even think it was possible, I guess.

It's my own experience, what I've seen in the fighters I trained with back in the day. People starting as pros, being nobodies.

I think titles are the main goal until they're able to sleep in silk sheets. Some have the hunger to be the best their whole careers and some simply cash out by not working hard anymore.

Indeed but as history of our sport shows lot of fighters of old had 100+ fights and many were still were penniless at the end.

When I used to train I think almost everyone did it because they loved fighting and dreamed about being the best. For many having some notoriety and celebrity is another plus. I think for pros at the top they realize how dirty promoters are and start to value themselves and know their careers will only last so long, so definitely making the most money becomes the top priority at that point.
