Rocky Marciano's so called punching power

Rocky is the hardest puncher in heavyweight history I believe and his record reflects that.

 

It's certainly true about the bone chips. Lastarza later claimed (undoubtedly wrongly) that he would be able to do better in a rematch after an operation to fix them.

Lastarza claimed in the post fight interview, that something happened to his arm during the fight, and after that he was unable to use it effectively. The ring doctor thought that his elbow might have been dislocated, though I guess that this was not the case.

 

I think that there have been cruiserweights, who were legitimately among the hardest punchers of their eras.

Hyde and Haye being two that spring to mind.

 

They weren't light heavyweights though.

 

Neither was Marciano.

Yes but he never attempted a weight cut, so we only really know what he would have been like as a cruiser.

That aside, there have been some pretty heavy punchers who managed t sweat down to 175.

Enzo Macarinelli springs to mind.

He knocked out two teeth plus a piece of bridgework, which was an unspecified number of teeth.

That sounds like a pretty nasty injury to me!

 

Having been in boxing for half a century I've yet to encounter one honest and knowledgeable boxing fan or boxer who talks of others in the sport like this guy. Hey, freedom of speech is a good thing, but it doesn't mean you respect ignorance.
