Lol boxing fans are so weird, they are like cringy little nerds that think that boxing is some fantasy universe.
Most boxers have a very rough background, a lot of them are growing up in the streets and boxing is usually the only way for them to not have the same miserable life as their parents. Money and a chance to and social mobility is the main motivation for most of them.

I'd say multiples of that would be even more preferable.

I have met no boxer who could not make his living by anything different from fighting. All the pro fighters I've known, apart from his fighting career they had a job. Only the best can afford to make a living by only boxing.

I think that you have spent more time watching films than training in a gym. Fighters are normal peole, not the poor guys who steal to eat and suddenly they start training 24x7 to become a world champion to earn money to pay a house to his mom who lives on the streets. Too many films dude....

Some of the ones I met are policemen today, a very good, GOOD, job in my country. Another one has his food store. Another one became a soldier. Another one is a boxing trainer now. None of them was starving people looking for an oportunity to use boxing to scape from his "miserable life"... stop watching films. They were people who practiced a sport, the best ones became pros and made some money of it, not much, though. That's all. Silvester Stallone is in the hall of fame, dude, but rocky is a movie.

I mean, the $$ is what you fight for but I believe the moment you focus on $$ as your main goal you become less hungry and less motivated as a fighter to be the best you can be. I think there's an art to having a team you can trust, to just focusing on fighting and not worry about the $$. Because as long as you can stay in top shape, if you have the talent the $$ will come. But the moment you start chasing the $$ and lose focus in your training you lose the edge and hunger to train, live and perform at your best.

I never said that they would starve and only said that they were super poor. Kova said he was mugging people in the streets with friends, usyk picked up boxing cause his parents could not afford his soccer training, golovkin was choosen by his family to train boxing and not his brother cause they didnt have the money for both, wilders daughter was ill so he started boxing to make money fast, same with Cunningham heck there is even a Pacquiao documentary with the first 20 min covering the poor circumstances Manny had to grow up in. Those examples where simply the ones i just randomly happen to know, i could make the list endless.
Every Pro I trained with sucks ass and will never even come close to win a world title, because I am from Germany one of the richest country in the whole world were jobless people receive social welfare that is twice the salery many people in other European countrys make. How many good boxers come from germany, Swiss, Austria, Scandinavia, France and so on?

Stupid assertion. You can make the same examples in every other sport. You watch too many movies, I insist.

But I dont care, I wont engage in such a nonsense discussion.

I think it depends on their prospects

If you are a blue chip looking to be a full time fighter and have good management I would say yes. For them it's a career and like any working person, business owner or whatever they are looking for a promotion, to maximize their earnings

Other fighters have jobs and fight for the extra money and because they like it. I'm sure some of them would love to earn millions but are happy to step in on short notice and even get a chance to be on TV and feel like a true professional athlete even if for just a moment

Even the career fighters who are after the checks are still fighters at heart who do it because it's in their blood. I couldn't see someone loathe boxing and do it for a living unless they truly had nothing else or were in possession of out of this world talent. But prestige and accomplishment is also a part too

I said that I was not going to engage in this stupid discussion. I'm weak. I'll try not to continue though.

Good insight here, your last paragraph is eye-opening, specifically the selling point part which I think Micky Ward fits.

Fair point about penniless, but equally fair I think is to underscore that many if not all boxers ended up without a nickel due to their own carelessness, like Riddick Bowe for example.

hahahahhahahahahahhaahahah i read through that thread, nothing in there supports your argument. Modest backround doesnt mean to not even have money to effort soccer membership for your kid like with usyk or tyson who was arrested 38 times by age 13 or bhop who spent a few years in prison together with the murderer of his brother. Thats not modest, that is poor.
    Are you mentally challenged?

Boxing has people from pretty much all backgrounds.

Most boxers don't have a "very rough" background. They come from all walks of life. Also having a rough background doesn't inherently give you an advantage over any other man in a boxing ring.

Funny thing is if you look at examples of men who were/are willing to die in that ring, lay it all on the line I see no indication that your upbringing or background has really any effect on that. You would think it would but it really doesn't. (Bernard Hopkins disagrees because he has a chip on his shoulder)

The great thing about boxing is that it can present an opportunity for people from all walks of life, even the have nothings to be able to do or achieve something like Pacquiao, DeMarco, Peterson etc.

That all being said I wouldn't recommend someone who is homeless in a 1st world country to try to become a boxer to escape their situation. That notion is the fantasy universe one.

Dude the boxer whos cok you are sucking all the time grew up in a caravan as part of an ethnic group that is hated through out all of Europe, what are you even talking about. Wards dad died of heroin abuse, his mum was a crack head, mayweather family is a bunch of crack heads, joshua was a convicted criminal by age 18 this list is endless. It makes way more sense to list the people that actually come from somewhat a,,normal“ backround such as froch or haye ( to me britain is a rather poor country).

even tyson and roy jones jr both said that there children could never become boxers like them because they just lack the toughness and grew up in a to good environment. Mayweather said that his kids should go to college and they should never box.
