Who had the best footwork among big heavyweights? For this discussion, big means anyone over 230 lbs, so anyone from 230-280 lbs. I think Buster Douglas had terrific footwork. He was a very fluent mover. Among today's heavyweights, Tyson Fury moves extremely well. I am not sure if i have ever seen a 250lbs + guy move as well.
Of the old-school boxers: Jersey Joe Walcott, Muhammad Ali, James J. Corbett, Larry Holmes. New school: Tyson Fury
It's Fury. People haven't quite caught on yet but he's re-drawing what is possible for a 260lb athlete. I'm all for "functional footwork". I'm' a believer in "always being in position to punch". But what Fury is doing is new.
This. Wlad had some pretty light feet when he was younger, but Fury takes it to the next level. He is such a special talent.
Fury and Douglas stand out for me too. Douglas had very quick sharp steps..perfect functionality...he moved back in lines so fast....there wasnt the superficial Ali impersonatioms type movement....
