Michael Spinks v Eddie Mustafa Muhammad Coming to the end of my light-heavyweights of the 70s/80s series of fights now - any more I watch of that era from now on will be when it takes my fancy rather than a dedicated effort to watch them. I've missed a few, either because they weren't available or I wasn't as enthused to see them but think I've caught most of the major fights. I think I've left this one till last because I suspected it wouldn't make for great viewing even though these two are top fighters. Let's see. 1 10-10 (predictably uneventful round) 2 10-9 (bit better than the first) 3 10-9 4 10-9 (close) 5 9-10 (nice body work by Mustafa Muhammad) 6 10-10 (pretty turgid) 7 9-10 (close) 8 10-9 (better from Spinks) 9 10-9 (Mustafa Muhammad's right is shut) 10 9-10 (close. Mustafa Muhammad woke up at the end of the round to just edge it.) 11 10-10 (this feels like homework) 12 10-8 (finally some proper action! Spinks drops Muhammad who survives but shows no fire and passively receives a bit of a beating for the rest of the round) 13 10-9 14 10-9 15 10-9 Spinks 147 - 140 Mustafa Muhammad Yep, pretty turgid stuff. Mustafa Muhammad gave a lacklustre performance and it was a pretty horrible style clash. No doubts about the winner though.
Jel, I had it 145-141 for Spinks. A bit closer but obvious winner. I don't think Eddie was ready for this fight after his unsuccessful foray into the heavyweight division. But that's not to make excuses. Spinks came in ready to take that title and did so.
Curtis Parker v Dwight Davison Haven't watched this fight since seeing it live in 1980. The battle of undefeateds. Here we go. Round 1: 10-9 Parker Round 2: 10-9 Parker Round 3: 10-10 Even Round 4: 10-9 Davison Round 5: 10-9 Davison Round 6: 10-9 Parker Round 7: 10-10 Even Round 8: 10-9 Davison Round 9: 10-9 Davison Round 10: 10-9 Davison Total: 97-95 Davison (actual scores: 97-93, 97-93 and 97-94 all for Davison) It's funny, but I always considered Davison to be a lazy fighter, despite this win. I remember his bout with Tony Sibson where Tony just wailed on him with Davison doing little. In this bout Parker started fast and looked like he was going to run away with it like he had been with his previous opponents, but then Davison really started to get leverage on those uppercuts to the head and body as Parker came charging in and Parker or his corner could never come up with a plan B. He really had one way of fighting - straight in. It's not like he was going to outjab Davison. But decent enough fight. It was over before I knew it.
I’m surprised you had Spinks winning the first 4 rounds. Don’t have a score card handy but as I remember it Eddie was out-boxing him pretty comfortably in the early goings. Made for a much closer fight on the cards even though there was no doubt as to who was the winner.
This is a lie, you're only 13. Anyone else pretending to have a wife in this thread will be immediately banned.
If I as actually in charge of this forum I would ban you for chat in the scorecard thread. I have no power. This content is protected
