This. Stop looking at the promoters and direct anger towards the commission. They pick the judges so it's on them.

Eddie will have his list of judges which he will give to the board for approval. He would have selected O'Connor to be there tonight and judge for him and the BBBoC have approved him to officiate. Eddie will then take care of his wages and expenses. Eddie as promoter can say to the board 'I do not want this guy at my event' and they would select another judge from his list provided he meets their criteria. This would be the equivalent of lets say Manchester United v Chelsea and Man u are selecting a referee from their favourites, hosting him and also paying his wages. It's a farce.

But it's up to the board to monitor judges. If a judge is continuing to put in bad scorecards the board have to ask why and should be determining whether someone is a qualified judge?

I don't think that money changes hands in this sort of situation - the risks are too great for both parties for what would be a comparatively small amount. What I do believe is that Terry O'Connor, and others, know which side their bread's buttered. You come up with the right decision and you get plenty of work, you get the trips abroad, the expenses, the kudos that comes with being at the big events. It's not a bad sideline for someone past retirement age.

And it's not all that different to the four round journeyman who knows that if he beats the young prospect he'll never get another fight with this particular promoter, yet he's the lifeblood of boxing and the dodgy judge is everything that's wrong with the sport. Last night was another outrage, but let's be honest about it.

Yes that's true but also Eddie can say "I don't want this guy judging my fight" and asked for him to be removed. O'Connor and others have been at it for years at Matchroom events and I have not once heard Eddie complain about them. It's the same way an away fighter can object to having certain officials, the one from recent memory was David Higgins asking for Giuseppe Quartarone to be removed from judging the Dillian Whyte fight.

This is my point as well. It's the fact these judges are involved in these types of fights.

Eddie Hearn is the one who wines and dines them. Can be sure he will drop subtle hints in.

Absolutely right that he could insist on other judges but he doesn't, because he knows these judges are almost certainly going to throw in a scorecard that appeases the home or 'A' fighter if the fights close.

Puroresu is right also that the board should be doing something about this. Both promoter and board are as bad as each other.

I mean O'connor was checking his phone at one point in the fight, the guy should of been blacklisted from judging a long time ago.

Terry o Conner was a fighter.

Theres pics going around with o Conner on his phone during the bout, which is certainly going to put his scorecard in the spotlight by the board.
Another thing tho, and I've mentioned this before. Boxing scores are subjective and also as humans we process the information through our own filters. Then other things to add in is, watching it on tv is different to watching it at home.
The amount of times I've been to a fight then watched it at home and I've seen it in a totally different way. Us sat at home see the fight differently to a judge say ringside, then 1 judge sat ringside sees it differently to another judge sat ringside.
I don't know the answer tbh

The Refs and the judges know who determines their future work, so of course they are going to do things in favour of what is 'best for business' from the local side of things.

Even before the Ritson fix, Lawson was given a hundred chances to recover . If it was the other way round, one tiny wobble, ref would have done the early hug stoppage.

Look it happens the world over. Remember Sakurable in Japan (Pride), he would be beaten half to death before the ref would stop the fight in the hope he would turn things round.

combat sport judging is corrupt the world over. Germany, Mexico, etc. You have to be corrupt to keep up.

Ritson versus a Mexican in Mexican, he wouldn't win a round.

Just watched his interview on ifilmtv.

Couldn't be any more callous in his response, clearly didn't want to be there (being interviewed). His whole demeanour screamed "I don't really give a **** tbh" as well as his responses. I should do a breakdown video of this tbh.

On the subject of the phone, said its hard to see if its a phone or not, is he ****ing serious?

Then basically said he'll just get a slap on cheek (wrist) and that'll be it. So basically he's going to do nothing about it.

The way he worded some of his responses he's basically just paved the way for any ridiculous score cards to come in.

This guy is the head of the board for British boxing, just mind boggling were still stuck with people like this.

Spud O'Connor has had a very long career producing scorecards that simply cannot be explained by incompetence.

Last night was another 2 examples on a very long list and there is nobody in the world that has produced cards consistently with zero reflection of what has been happening in the ring. Check out John McDermott v Tyson Fury 1 and explain to me how anyone cannot give that fight to McDermott by at least 5 rounds and maybe even 6 or 7. Spud scored it 98-92 Fury which left everyone speechless.

Then he was at it as a referee in the Cleverly v Krusher fight where he actually carried Cleverly back to his corner and never stopped the fight.

There is no accountability and all they will do is give him one pie less and no cake at the next card.

The voice of experience. Hope people heeded your advice.

I confess I called it a night before the Ritson fight. I'd enjoyed the Leach win and was toying with the idea of waking up for Lomachenko/Lopez. So I recorded the Ritson fight and it's only seeing Terry O Connor's phone shot this morning that spoiled the result but at least saved me watching expecting anything like a fair shake on the cards.

Terry had a good evening anyway with his ridiculous card in the Ward fight as well. Even before his score was announced as soon as I heard his name I knew what was coming.

That's a fair comment and you can argue a few rounds could be subjective either way but 117-111? That is how the vast majority of commentators and journalist scored the fight but in reverse! I cannot see how anyone can defend that card when he was caught on his phone MID ROUND not watching the fight.
