It absolutely let him down. He failed to engage because he wasn't able to get Teo out of position or step in close without taking punches. He literally gave the fight away because of this.
Lopez did well to render the Loma footwork less effective. He was quick on his feet and swiveling well to keep him in front of him, all the while throwing correct shots to keep Loma away. Good gameplan
BS. He was able to get to positions to land - but he was too tentative to let his hands go. Handspeed and punch selection cost him the fight. His footwork was fine but Loma haters are pretending it's part of the problem because they want to denigrate the most vaunted part of his skillset.
Loma’s lack of footwork and using his angles was the most disappointing aspect of his performance to me. I guess Lopez deserves credit for that, but Loma didn’t seem to have the magic feet we had become accustomed to.
That was the real surprise last night. He kept pivoting everytime Lomachenko tried to use angles and it allowed Lopez to stay in front of him. He also put in really good body work early on, especially that straight right to the mid-section. Lopez fought well beyond his years last night, weathered Loma's storm later on in the match and sealed the deal with beating Loma in the 12th round.
loma fanboys were saying loma was gonna use his footwork and angles to get in get teo stopped . It was overrated
He's been at welter mostly due to the money. He really could have been at 140 for a long time (or lower, at least for some time) . It was a more ideal weight for him.
Or you know fighting two weight classes above your natural weight against a guy who will alao end up being a 147lber the next few years. The often cited quote fits perfectly, " a good big beats a great small"
Just because Pacquiao fights at and has been fighting at welterweight doesn't actually make him a welterweight.
Pacquiao is competing at a division that is 1 or 2 divisions north of where he should be. Despite having spent the last decade at 147, it still doesn't make him a welterweight. Thurman, Mikey, Beltran, Rios, and Robert Garcia all consider him to be a lightweight. Floyd's #1 juicehead bodyguard said that he was shocked by how small Pacquiao was when he saw him in person.
Good point, I thought Lopez didn't exactly look too good during the latter half of the fight despite getting hit by a featherweight with arm punches..this fight begged to be fought for 15 rounds.
