he’s the type of guy who Floyd would’ve outpointed, no issue, and been criticized for fighting afterwards. Teo has to be green, right?

I think so, yeah. Floyd would have the reach over him, so he could peck away and stay out of range as he likes to. And if he made it look pretty easy, many would dismiss it with cradle robbing of a grossly over hyped opponent.

It's very likely that Mayweather outpoints him easily. Lopez is a very good fighter, but has defensive holes. And leaves his chin exposed. Mayweather would exploit that.

Well firstly I didn't call Canelo green when he fought Floyd. He'd had a lot of pro fights at that point and was a rated world champion. It's a shame he weight drained him but other than that it was a masterful performance from Mayweather marred by one terrible example of judging.

As for Floyd Teo, Floyd would have dominated him at 135 as he would have dominated Loma at 135. 135 is Loma's ceiling where it was arguably Floyd's absolute prime. He's a head to head monster at that weight so Lopez like anyone else who isn't an ATG lightweight, is getting the absolute business there.

Teo is a good fighter but flawed but that's what makes him so interesting. His defense is not good. Pbf is too accurate and would have found a home for that straight right hand.

The first paragraph is inaccuarte aside from the fact that Canelo had many pro fights, nearly as many as Floyd when they fought.

The weight draining theory is nonsensical; he fought Trout right before Mayweather and weighed in at 153 lbs. That was the highest Canelo ever weighed in his pro career.

The 2 fights before Trout he fought at 152lbs and 150 lbs. He fought at WW- 147 lbs- for the good majority of his career before that.

So if you want to say Floyd made him come in at 1 lb less than Canelo's highest weight up to that juncture in his career, that's fine. But to say he weight drained him is hyperbolic, it would hold more credence had Floyd forced him to fight at 147 lbs, even 150 lbs.

That fable of him being weight drained needs to stop. He was constantly fighting between 147-150 lbs for over 2 years before he fought Mayweather Jr.

As far as the topic goes, I'm assuming we are talking about Floyd at 135 lbs and not the older version of "Money" May. It wouldn't end well for Lopez- he's too slow and would be giving up considerable reach against a master boxer like Mayweather. Floyd would toy with him easily with his perpetual motion and precision punching and stop him in the late rounds or cruise to a very easy decision. Lopez' defense would be his Achilles Heel.

The first paragraph is inaccurate? WTF are you on. The draw scored card was a joke - Mayweather more or less pitched a shut out - and Maywether drained Canelo two pounds less than the limit. You can argue about how necessary or effective a tactic it was but the fact is he fought Canelo 2lbs below the weight limit. Something he refused to do after agreeing to when he fought Marquez.

Oh and in case you didn't realise it the level of the fights you have matters as much if not more than the number.

And of course it it'd have to be the 135lb version of Mayweather. What hypothetical version of him would you put against Lopez the 135lb champ?

Different type of fighters altogether, before this fight Teo was not noted as a careful boxer...I think he did really well & lets face so has his Dad as a coach , although personally I can't take to the guy. Floyd comes from a top class boxing dynasty & ofcourse it shows. no I think it was a close match, maybe Lomo was a bit rusty ,timing etc but take nothing away fro Teo & co he did brilliantly & I hope there is more improvement to come without diluting his massive heart!

Loma is still a great featherweight though . Credit to him for fighting in higher weightclass against bigger guys . He gave us great fights vs Linares ,Campbell ,Pedraza 3 top 135 pounders today

I agree , these 2 guys are true Champions in every sense of the word.
And you know what the fight was greatly anticipated to be a great fight...as usual these type of fights rarely meet the expectations...manny / Floyd, Hagler / Lennard canelo/ Kovalev all a bit weak...but this fight you had a relatively young Buck thrown in the deep end regards to expirience etc & he really went for it makes a nice change imo....Think he's converted me after his press conference...plus why should he rematch Lomo...let him wait, go on & have a defence with someone else, why pad Lomos record out with a possible return Victory, would only make Teo's hard work look like a fluke..

Does every upcoming boxer have to be discredited to make Mayweather appear better than he actually was?
