How come when mayweather fights the entire fight backing up against the ropes, blocking punches and making his opponent miss, then landing counter jabs, all the judges score the rounds for him. They say you need effective aggression, but when loma and other world class boxers try that, the judges score the round for the aggressor even when he is missing? How come floyd fights are judged under a different criteria?
Floyd never fought like that ever. If he was on the back foot he'd be countering and leading guys into his punches. Loma simply didn't land enough or even throw enough punches in the first half.
I love aggressive fighters. Spent most of Mayweather's career as a hater. He's retired, I'm over it. He's just simply a great fighter. As far as fighting defensively, he still managed to land more punches than his opponents in those rounds while shutting down the other fighters offense. It's that simple. For Loma and Lopez it was a low output fight, but Loma was landing in the single digits while Lopez was landing in the double digits in the early rounds.
I honestly can’t think of a Mayweather fight (or round off the top of my head that he was given) that meets your description but ... Boxing is scored on: Effective aggression — if Floyd is making his opponent miss, the aggression isn’t effective Clean (and hard) punching — if Floyd is making his opponent miss and effectively countering (with jabs, as you say, but often in his fights with laser-like right hand leads that snap his opponent’s head back) then he is out punching his opponent. Defense — as mentioned, you say he’s not getting hit Ring generalship — this is a harder one to explain and understand, perhaps, but it basically comes down to one fighter imposing his will and dictating the terms of the fight ... if I’m sticking and moving and you’re coming forward but cannot cut off the ring and I’m able to keep doing that, then I’m winning ring generalship; if you’re cutting off the ring and never giving me room to stick and move, you’re the ring general Now I gather you’re somehow trying to relate this to Lopez-Loma and I would say in rounds 1-7, Lopez wasn’t getting hit much, he was landing more clean and effective punches, he was more often an effective aggressor (especially with his body attack) than Loma and whatever game plan Loma was trying to apply he wasn’t doing it because it was fought more on Lopez’s terms. In 8-11, Loma is getting the better of these categories. In round 12, Lopez reasserted his will (and dominance) and outslugged Loma. I don’t see what that fight has to do with Floyd, though.
Honestly, I'm not sure how I keep responding to this guy's threads. There should be a limit on how many shades of the same thread you can make. His obsession with Mayweather and Lomachenko are not healthy.
Heck I can even make more of a case for Canelo winning the first Golovkin fight than I can this one. He was on the retreat but at least he'd step in with vicious combos every now and then.
Ring generalship can be a tricky one. I also think that if you're pressing the fight and storming forward but the other guy is leading you into punches, you shouldn't be the ring general. But if the other guy is on his bike the whole time than ok.
Yeah, there are so many style factors (plus height, reach/length, speed, etc.) that can come into play on this. The easiest example historically to grasp is that in Leonard-Duran I, Duran made Leonard fight his fight; in Leonard-Duran II, Leonard changed tactics and had Duran chasing him to no effect and did whatever he wanted, so he fought his fight and Duran was ineffective in neutralizing it.
Forget Floyd. Ya'll must've forgot about Crawford spending the entire duration of his 'fight' against Pity Pat Postol on his bicycle stinking out the joint like he was being pursued by a prime Mike Tyson on an industrial dose of PCP. And even worse he weighed a whole weight class more than the light-hitting Ukrainian who is decidedly unremarkable in terms of being physically gifted and athleticism. Imagine the amount of ring miles Crawford who has hardly fought any punchers at all would've clocked up if that was the supremely physically gifted and blazing fast and powerful Lopez who was standing in the opposite corner to him. What exactly do you think would happen if Lopez detonated one of his bombs on Crawford's whiskers if Cuban leprechaun Gamboa, who was giving away 7lbs and a freakish 9'' in reach and who has only stopped 2 of his 11 opponents up at 135, can rock Crawford down to his soul with a solitary right hand and hurt him so badly it took a good 60 seconds for his head to clear. I'll tell you exactly what would happen. Night night, Bud.
Give it a rest with these cry me a river threads. Loma lost fair and square, so youre going to have to get your thumb out your mouth and man up and deal with it man.
