    Exactly! Fighters especially older ones are never 100% going into a fight there's always some nagging injury so no excuses. If you're too injured just pull out of the fight.

    Don’t think anyone will refute the injury but it is an excuse if you choose to fight. He should have not fought if hurt or injured.

    What I’m getting from this is “I was arrogant and thought I could roll over my opponent even injured. I was wrong. I was disrespectful of his skill and My arrogance cost me”.

    Except they're not baseball/football players with gargantuan contracts that are signed and guarantee financial security even if they miss half or an entire season. And unlike most other sports where dozens of hundreds of games are played annually, a boxer fights 2 to 3 times a year. A boxer is forced to make the choice between getting paid or not. And paychecks are already hurting due to COVID.
