Totally agree, and lets not forget Haye and the toe. I feel like that's what started all this nonsense. Ever since Haye's toe it became like this thing that you have to fight injured or else you're a coward.

The excuses for Lomachenko are hilarious.

Injuries are part of the game.
I didn't see many comments post-fight that claimed Lomachenko was clearly fighting injured. The excuses were various but the idea that he started the fight obviously injured wasn't really offered. Now it's gotta be the "go to" excuse.

You're being incredibly shortsighted. If a boxer doesn't fight, he doesn't get paid. Most boxers make money twice a year. It's not like other sports where massive guaranteed contracts are signed and they still get paid if they're out for an entire season because of an injury/surgery.

It took 5 years of chasing for Pac to get Floyd in the ring. No way Pac calls that fight off unless his arm is completely dead.

And if a fighter did pull out with an injury, they'd be accused of lying, ducking, or being scared.

It's one thing if you're a club fighter who needs to fight to pay the rent. You're telling me Lomachenko's livelihood was threatened by not fighting Lopez? GTFOH, we're in a pandemic first of all so it's not even like you have any kind of a gate. The fight wasn't PPV it was on Free TV. How much $$ did Loma even earn for this? And according to you, he's supposed to fight with a shoulder injury risk his long term career so he can embarrass himself and back away for 6 or 7 rounds and not throw any punches? For ESPN Free TV $$?

Fighter's fight for $$, absolutely, but there's a point where you need to be smarter and realize that $$ isn't worth it. If you're injured, you're injured and you shouldn't fight period. There's a fine line here between being tough and being dumb.

The Pac situation is a quite different. We're talking about the most lucrative fight in history, after the other guy was ducking you for 5-6 years. Lomachenko fighting Lopez is nowhere near that kind of situation. $100 PPV + fans waiting years for it + sold out arena vs Free TV + no fans during a pandemic.

You can't have ever had a torn Rotator Cuff, you can hardly shake hands let alone box...

I don’t doubt there’s a reoccurring issue with the shoulder but I’m not sure it made a difference to the outcome of the fight. When Lopez tired and Loma did start throwing it didn’t seem to be a problem. Might have caused him a bit of pain but nothing a professional isn’t used to sucking up. The fight wouldn’t have gone ahead if the injury was serious enough to limit Lomas output.

Exactly. (and yeah I've done my rotator cuff in before)
It's debilitating for boxing, of course.
Which means Lomachenko certainly didn't have one through the whole fight either.

Come on, man. You're smarter than this. In boxing, the difference could be a single punch in your career. So it's really about grabbing as many opportunities to fight as you can. We know Lomachenko's made money in boxing, but we also know that he hasn't made Pac/Clenelo/Mayweather money. He earns even less than the likes of Mikey, Spence, and Crawford. I believe he made $3 milllion for the Lopez fight. That's a LOT of money to walk away from. He obviously thought the pain was manageable and that his skills would carry him through. Can't fault him for being a warrior. Just saying it's easy for you to say he should walk away from $3 million dollars. And I'm sure that there was backend money contingent upon viewership numbers. Overall, it was big money during a pandemic.

This is simply false. Lots of MLB pitchers pitch through pain only to have MRIs reveal a torn rotator cuff. And the stress of throwing/torquing a 90+ mph fastball is far more stressful than a boxer throwing a punch. Also keep in mind that MLB pitchers can work at their own pace and don't have nearly the same kind of adrenaline pumping through them as a boxer fighting for his life in the ring.
