He was right though for the most part.. Canelo wasnt a successful title defence.

Kovalev WAS backed by HBO. They just decided to side with their american friend Ward when it was time.

Loma, Usyk, Gvozdyk were all backed by HBO when Arum was still with them. When HBO decided not to air one of Pacquiao's fight he took his whole stable and left making a deal with ESPN. Don't know exactly what happened right after.

Beterbiev was with GYM who made a deal with Haymon so that some of their fighters would be under the PBC banner. Beterbiev was "forced" into contract with Haymon.

Pirog ? So what even if they backed Jacobs during the fight? He won, by knockout. He was supposed to fight GGG in early 2012 and injured his back and was never able to come back. He could have been great. Maybe he was better than GGG, maybe GGG would've knocked him out. We will never know. But people like to rewrite history so Pirog is the greatest ever for knocking a green, sick Jacob.

 

Draws have always been considered title defences.

Some good points. People also forget about the original Soviet pros like Arbachakov and Nazarov, who were absolute beasts and more proven than Loma and GGG.

In hindsight they didn't miss much by supposedly not backing Kovalev. The guy turned out to be a lazy alcoholic woman beater who, according to Don Turner and John David Jackson, didn't take his training seriously and wouldn't listen. He also turned out to be a quitter showing no heart at all in the Ward rematch and a glass jaw in the Canelo fight. Typical talented front runner.

 

And ggg drew and lost in that defence , 100% of thier fans came up with the excuse that he was as already old, than magically looked again like a prime beast against Vanes and Rolls
