I'll have to rewatch that one. I remember thinking Brewer should have won the first one and Ottke got the better of the 2nd fight. Have you ever seen the Brewer vs Eichols fight? I watched that war live on ESPN Friday Night Fights. Brewer was a fun fighter to watch and he certainly gave Ottke fits. I
That one was an all out war. But coming back to the Ottke-Brewer I fight, that one was mostly a boxing match and Brewer still won. Toney is certainly a better boxer than Brewer. I gotta watch Brewer - Ottke II, my recollection is that this was a close one.
Well, considering the biggest idiot on the forum ( Ra's Al Ghul) agrees with me, maybe I am wrong about Ottke over Toney. I was certainly wrong about Lomo winning last weekend. I still don't think folks get my point about the matchup between Ottke and Toney. We can talk about how these guys performed against other fighters all day long but I don't believe that is what is important. Ottke was a 300 plus fight amauter that would have a game plan to prevent Toney's countrrpunching. Whether he would be able to implement it or not is another question but the ability was certainly there.
Toney at his best was a complete fighter, he can lead and counter.Due to his style, Ottke would probably win a few rounds and go the distance, that is it. Ottke never proved to be on the level of Toney as far as boxing skills.
I agree Toney was the better and more accomplished fighter without question. I also think Toney was way better than Montell Griffin yet he struggled with him. I do think Toney won one of those fights with Griffin but my point is for 24 rounds that they fought he never was able to take complete control and I believe Ottke would pose a similar issue. It's ok if we don't agree since it is something that neither of us will ever be able to prove. I just see Ottke as a stylistic nightmare for Toney and I do understand why a lot if folks do agree. Ottke was not a very likable fighter where Toney was.
Let's be honest, Toney never faced refs like Ottke's refs. He'd have a real hard time getting going. On the other hand Ottke never faced judges like Toney's judges. They should compromise and meet halfway, like in the middle of the Atlantic.
yeah toney desserved the nod in Mc Callum I.That was the majority view at the time and of the broadcast.
I have watched the Brewer - Ottke II. Now that was a close fight, that could have gone either way. The first one Charles definitely won. My conlusion is: Ottke is not all that good.
I see there’s a few on here that have fallen into the trap. I must admit I do now and then but have resisted in this instance!
The first one was a robbery. The second one I did not score round for round but my overall impression was that it could have gone either way
