Pulled out of fighting Artur Akavov earlier than he did, claiming injury. The fight was pushed back about 3 months. This is fun, there must be more?
Turned up in camo for that fight if I remember rightly and spent most of the fight hiding from any real boxing.
I'd argue that Martinez was well gone by then with injuries and was 37 at the time, evidenced in his next fight where he was bounced by a much smaller albeit world class Cotto.
He's beaten barker, Macklin and Williams leading into the Murray fight amongst others. I'd agree that it wasn't prime Martinez but he was still a well recognised champion when Martin fought him. Your not giving Martin enough credit for that fight imo. Also the sturm fight.
This fight actually makes me giggle now, I was irritated and angry at first, it's a poor fight, it's outrageous Murray has been given a WBO ranking seemingly out of the blue, but hey, it's Matchroom. I shouldn't expect nothing more than this pile of steaming dung, BJS has apparently told Hearn he isn't fighting anybody of note because the money isn't good enough. BJS has basically wasted a career that promised far more, he is waiting for that cash out against Canelo, he will be waiting a long time in my opinion, the lockdown isn't ending soon and fans won't be back in stadium for a long time. Anyway, the reason it makes me giggle is because this is going to boomerang now, I honestly believe these shows and the absolute disregard for boxing fans is going to smack them all straight in the mouth. The PPV at the weekend will flop, I have zero doubt about it, none, it will make a loss, it's fight week and they are not even heavily advertising it because they don't want to throw any more money away. Chisora is a man with 9 loses and is headlining a PPV event, against a great fighter but it's Usyk, a Ukrainian fighter who has fought in this country once before, he isn't a big name in the U.K. And neither is Chisora. Moving on, The Whyte Povetkin card won't do very good numbers either, but they will try a little harder to sell that one, but we are heading towards Christmas and people are tightening their belts and casual fans are not all in on Whyte now, that hype train has come to a abrupt end. Casual are notorious for jumping of the bandwagon, The Whyte narrative has been shattered, he was blitzed by a way past his best 40 year old, he wasn't just stopped, he was switched off, Whyte isn't in the conversation any longer even if he beats Povetkin. It's pretty much over for Whyte, they want to make AJ Vs Fury next year, TWICE, so when is Whyte getting a shot anyway? Summer 2022? Whyte Vs Povetkin is a pointless fight now Iwlder is out of the picture, it means nothing expect saving Whyte reputation, it won't get him a title shot for very long time, and even then he will probably have to fight another eliminator, the WBC are not going to let him just sit there and he will probably get beat in that. The AJ card will do well, it has AJ on it, the hype with Fury will guarantee that and Hearn will make sure that undercard is solid enough. But I want to thank Eddie Hearn, Adam Smith, the likes of BJS, Dave Allen and the rest of the Matchroom Bang Average Mob for killing PPV again and dragging boxing back 20 years. Long term it benefits boxing, they will have to finally kill this PPV model.
Yeah you're probably right, the fact I can't stand him is probably leading me to talk down his achievements. That said, I don't think he has ever been truly world class or top 5 in any division.
This content is protected Bill's biggest challenge for a few years this. Putting up with these two for a couple of hours is no easy feat
Andy Lee remains his best win, he'll retire with it being his best win, what an absolute waste of decent enough talent. He's never pushed himself and never properly dedicated himself enough to get himself into a position to command the fights he thinks he deserves. He may well retire an unbeaten 2 weight World Champion but unless he does something extraordinary between now and then he'll soon be forgotten. I hope he wraps this joke of a career up after this one, I'm not even interested in seeing him in with Callum Smith, I'm not interested in either of those two.
Thing is it seems the only way they Will make BJS v Smith is with fans AND PPV! I would be suprised if this fight even sold out let alone did PPV numbers to boot. 2 lazy fighters with next to no fan base and no good wins between them in recent memory. **** these 2, don't support it.
Really scraping the barrel with this fight -- no need for it in a division with such a depth of talent
