Khabib announces retirement in emotional speech, breaks down talking about his father "In an extremely emotional night for the Russian superstar, Khabib issued an open request to UFC for him to be crowned the undisputed greatest pound-for-pound fighter of all time. Jones took to Twitter to vent frustration at the request from Nurmagomedov: “15 world titles, numbers don’t lie. “I’m just going to ask for the heavyweight championship belt and see if they give it to me. Since we can just ask for things now. “If we’re having a popularity contest, I’d gladly take my L. This sh*t has nothing to do with fame or being a good person. I’ve giving [given] my whole adult life to this game, I owe it to myself to speak up." What are your thoughts on this? Who do you have as pound for pound number 1? My personal thoughts and opinion -Jones should have kept quiet at this time. The man lost his father and just retired, let him have his moment to shine. Maybe make your no.1 claims a few weeks later. -If we do NOT take into account PED's, I think Jones had a better championship run, higher quality oppositions etc. But PED's makes you wonder was he that good without steroids? -Khabib has done better in the last few performances than Jones -Khabib is definitely more humble and a better person
I think right now I would have Khabib as p4p no.1 in the world. When you look at how hard it is to beat Khabib at 155 the deepest div in all of mma and then you look at Jones over recent years at 205 after getting caught TWICE for ped's his performances have been ordinary and he struggled with some average middleweight fighters at 205 and most people thought he lost his last fight against Reyes who then got stomped by the new champ Blachowics. Khabib is the p4p best in the world right now.
It's funny how Jon's performances completely fell off a cliff after the introduction of USADA which eventually popped him twice leading to Jon not being able to stop average middleweights over 10 rds.
Funny enough, after the fight Jones tweeted congrats and how he's happy to see Khabib as #1 p4p. It's the ATG #1 spot he's shown as objecting to in the OP, I think, rather than current p4p
Ok let me start off with I have nothing but love and respect for Khabib and the Avar people as a whole. Ok with that said I don't see how a y can seriously rank Khabib as the p4p all time greatest. I dont even have him in the top 3. Jones, GSP, Silva, then Khabib. Maybe if he stays around and beats somebody great for 30 but come on people we have to go by the records. Khabib is 29-0 but only serious MMA fans have even heard of more than 4 of his opponents 6 of his wins were against opponents making there mma debut and another 6 had losing records. He's only ever fought at lightweight and he also only won the lightweight title 4 fights ago when it was vacated and beat a 11th ranked fighter for it. The guy is great dont get me wrong but his record isn't close to G.o.a.t caliber and anyone who looks closely at it knows that. Know all the fans always talk about Jones steroid use but does anyone hear many actual fighters bring it up. Except for guys like Cormier who are clean as it gets there is a reason fighters don't say ****. Half of them are juiced probably way more. The guys I've mentioned prior have beat way more studs and hall of Fame fighters in multiple weight classes. Lastly let me say this. Floyd Mayweather fought his whole career carefully picking opponents a d fighting every fight to win and was a dick about it and everyone hated him for it. Khabib fought well picked opponents fighting barely once a year and never fought to put on the best show only to win. The difference was he was a great guy a perfect gentleman and everyone loves him for it. Think about it
Mighty Mouse is 2nd Usman is prolly 3rd. The only close fight hes had he stopped the man in the 5th Then Izzy/Bones/Stipe in some order
