I am think you are being harsh on the board there. At the time there was a lot of debate as to who, if anyone, would be the one to beat Nunn. That was an interesting question, and I doubt many at the time got the answer right.
Yes, Nunn was considered the best at the time. I mean, the crop of middleweights at that time was fairly ordinary.
To be fair, Julian Jackson has a good argument to the #1 slot at middle for 1990. I initially thought Nunn clearly but Jackson's win over Graham was the best win at MW in that year.
I know, but there's a good argument to say Jackson had improved since then, and McCallum's win over Graham was very very close.
Watson couldn`t have taken G-man`s power and he didn`t have enough power to get g-man`s respect the way Benn did, the only reason Watson might have beaten McCallum at the time of his rematch with Eubank would be because it was at 168 and McCallum was too small to fight effectively at that weight, his prime weight was 154, Watson`s defense wasn`t as good as McCallum`s in his rematch with Eubank and got hit far too much, it wasn`t a very good performance at all and Eubank wasn`t as skilled or as proven as McCallum at all.
Jackson was being beat by Graham and beat Norris at 154 he was far better at 154 than at 160, McCallum said Jackson had the fastest hands he ever faced.
I don't think Jackson really improved too much. He was always a pretty basic boxer, with fast hands, open defense and lethal power. He was losing badly against Graham and was seconds away from being stopped when he pulled the howitzer out of the bag.
GMAN wouldn't have landed on Watson and after he blows his load he'd get completely schooled and outworked
Watson had a tight peekaboo guard that was hard to penetrate, he picked Benn apart and deserved the first Eubank fight. He was battering Eubank in the rematch before Eubank scored that tragic come from behind KO. McClellan was shown up as a front runner against Benn, his stamina is very poor. Unless he can take out Watson early and that's unlikely Watson would start to pick him apart. And if Benn can't put Watson down, I think Watson should be able to survive the early going.
Watson was open to the body, the McCallum fight proved that, hitting Watson`s body had nothing to do with rust, McCallum was a master body puncher and G-man had an awesome left hook to the side.
