What is the chance that Deontay wilder could make it to the third round against prime Muhammad Ali? Since modern fitness training has improved a lot since 1967. I`m thinking specifically of Ali`s performance v Williams, would Wilder have taken those shots better?

That particular Ali would have humiliated Wilder. Wilder always rely’s on the right hand to win and the one time he went up against someone who wasn’t afraid, wasn’t staying down, and attacked him, he got exposed for what he lacked in fundamentals and technique. Plus if Shavers, Foreman, Frazier, Norton, Lyle, and Liston couldn’t stop Ali I don’t think Wilder would either.

There are certain fighters that you actually have the basically kill to stop them

Fury & Ali are two of them rare breeds

Fact Wilder got so close shows he has freakish explosive power. It's not a joke despite all his flaws.

What are the chances of Ali making it through the halfway mark considering how many shots he took from smaller, stumpier fighters. Wilder can take a fair few of Ali's punches. He's taken shots from bigger and more powerful men. Ali, who get's put down by LHW's, is not taking Wilder's RH. And Wilder will land it, like he does against everybody. Float-like-a-Parkinson's was punch drunk because he took shots all the time. You either have Fury's defence and still potentially get nailed or you have power and take Wilder out. Ali falls into no man's land. That **** he pulled against Foreman would get him iced since the ropes wouldn't protect him from Wilder's reach!

There's some seriously nostalgia-driven members posting in this thread, and no doubt there will be more.

Although Muhammad Ali is obviously the greater, the bout is competitive. Deontay Wilder dwarfs Muhammad Ali and has a considerable reach advantage, on top of the fact that he has an above average chin (no matter what biased people say), which allows him to work his way into the fight and gives him enough time to fire his right hand.

If you can't even compare agility and speed between Ali 1960 - 1967 and Ali from 70 ies you are not nostalgia but delusion drived Wilder fanboy.

Wilder had 2 boxers in the ring: slow Ortiz and Tyson Fury. :D

I can't stand Deontay Wilder - calling for objectivity does not equate to being a fanboy.

Muhammad Ali went rounds with many during the periods cited, including 15 with Ernie Terrell, yet Deontay Wilder can't get past 3? All right.

This. Wilder showed a lot of heart against Fury despite getting shellacked. He's taken a bunch of punches before and kept going. Let's be fair to the guy. Ali would humiliate him skills wise but Wilder would keep going, and I give him a reasonable chance of seeing the final bell.

You can compare Ali from 60 ies speed with Wilder and start to guess.

Wilder usually defeated opponents with ease, objective reality might be that he maybe will not be able last 12 rounds with prime Huck.
Not alone talk about Foreman, prime Holmes etc.

Hunter is small HW, still he does boxing. :D

Objective reality for D.W fans is different world. If Wilder struggled to land quikck KO on very slow Ortiz for long rounds, what he might be capable to do with 5 top US HW boxers from 70 ies not even to talk about Ali from 60 ies.

Dude, Szpillka, that glass-chinned Polish fighter with poor defense ate many FLUSH Wilder right hands with little effect. Szpilka had to leap into a perfectly timed right hand to get knocked out by Wilder. Wilder could hurt Ali but he is not knocking Ali out. Wilder has explosive power but lets not get carried away.

Depends from Ali version. Ali from 60 ies had all potential to be current LHW or CW pro lineal king if he was in their sizes and also weight.
    Or ammy Oly champ accordingly.
Ali from 70 ies...... painful to ask.
Ali in 60 ies was..........I think GOAT forever....#1.

Ali always liked to show off for a few rounds before getting down to business. Depended on what kind of mood he was in. Wilder could stick around for awhile while Ali danced around and looked pretty. Ali was never in a hurry to knock out outclassed foes
