Hard to say really. Dokes was a much better boxer with phenomenal handspeed. He's going to tattoo Wilder. On the plus side for Wilder is that Dokes wasn't the most durable guy and that its certainly within his scope to stretcher Dokes out. On the other other hadn I seem to remember Dokes as having a decent defence so the question is whether Wilder can stop Dokes before his combination flurries turn his face to coleslaw. I'm undecided.

Dokes in his prime would consistently beat Wilder to the
punch. Wilder doesn't work his jab effectively, telegraphed
his right hand. Easy for a fighter as skilled as prime Dokes
was, or any well schooled boxer to pick up on and handle
    effectively.
Dokes stops Wilder in 8rds. More emphatically then Fury.

As mentioned Dokes was a more skilled boxer with faster hands. But I don’t think he can take Wilder’s right hand on the chin. It would take a miracle for him to box for 10 or 12 or 15 rounds without ever getting hit. I have to favor Wilder on this factor alone

I think Wilder would get outboxed for several rounds but score a KO later on.
    Dokes isn't elusive enough.

With out thinking I would say wilder TKO 9, at 6’7” 85” reach vs 6’3” 78” reach. Is wilder really that bad...just asking...

Michael Dokes lucked out big time by never taking a flush shot on the jaw by Mike Weaver (who would have demo'd him far more thoroughly than Coetzee ever could have dreamed of). And I'm not sure at all Wilder was as good a fighter as Weaver. A great, great puncher...what else? Weaver could at least box more than acceptably.

Keep in mind, I like Deontay best out of the heavies today...to me he's the most exciting heavyweight out there (though admittedly a lot of that has to do with his punching potential).

I give this to Dokes, 12 round UD.

This isn't correct. They fought 15 rounds and Weaver most certainly landed some big blows. One booming right hand just past the midway point remains vivid in the memory. Dokes was staggered but pushed on.

I'm not sure i'd take it completely for granted that Wilder could survive Dokes offensive either. Once he filled out and muscled up he was a good if not great heavyweight puncher and could put punches in bunches on you. He had a reputation as feather fisted early in his career and some didn't seem to realize his power did get a whole lot better. I wouldn't take it for granted that Dokes couldn't get Wilder out of there. Furey really isn't a big puncher tho many in their defense of Wilder automatically defaulted to how big Fury is and his punches simply have to be pretty powerful etc etc. Wilder also seems to gas at times quite easily to me before taking sizable breathers via low workrate and interaction.

Not only is his power underrated nowadays but his durability is too. He was known as quite durable going into the Coetzee fight and shipped some big bombs from Weaver including a brutal sustained body attack. By the time He fought Coetzee he had surrendered to cocaine and booze and binged on both leading up to the bout. Some reports had him high on cocaine just a couple of days prior to the bout. He fought in somewhat of a haze and it was quite noticeable. If Coetzee had one thing it was a murderous right hand and Dokes even in this state shipped some big right hands before succumbing.

Wilder has that big right hand tho and it's an open fight. Dokes would be looking to shorten the distance and tattoo Wilder with those rapid fire combinations of his. If he did hurt Wilder he was actually quite a mercurial finisher and would really put it on him.

Open match with Dokes the better fighter and Wilder the immense puncher. I'd like to see Wilder actually beat some solid top 10 contenders.

Thank you for doing your homework or being around to actually see prime Dokes fight. I've seen 2nd rate fighters from the past I'd pick over Wilder. He'd be no better than fighters like Lyle, or Shavers fighter's that were exciting, but limited. But at least those two actually could fight behind a jab, and slip a punch every once in a while. So Wilder may not be on that level. He'd be more Mac Foster, or Jeff Sims.

Cheers mate. When Dokes was around i was living and breathing this stuff. So were guys like Saad. You can pick them a mile away. Having said that a lot can be picked up by taking in the right info and checking things out.
