thought i would put together some highlight footage of a couple of past fighters who have worn the shoes usyk is wearing today. i want you to take a look at differences in everything, and the similarities. the speed, power, technique, etc...of both the fighters and their opponents. take a look at the physical differences that suggest differences in conditioning and actual true size. the effect the fighters punches have on their opponents, and the effect their opponents punches have on them. and i would like to hear what you see. what does your level of understanding and knowledge of boxing tell you the video shows. enjoy. Give Usyk some Holyfield roids. Still they are bigger men today than Holyfield fought Hard to do comparisons. Usyk is very much an arm puncher also. Holyfield wasn't. Usyk Caught Chisora with a sweet fast counter that had him hurt but nothing to finish him with. Pitter patter punches early doors. If you havn't got size, you need power If you haven't got size or power you need Skill, Toughness & Stamina just to hold your own The upper class superheavys of today's division will fully test Usyk's toughness and stamina, I expect it will falter. Fury is an outlier because he is swift for a big man which is an advantage Usyk has to take advantage of over bigger men. Any exceptions? I suspect Usyk would box Whyte's butt off. Usyk knows what he is doing, he's been in there with the Joyce, Wlad's and Povetkins & more. Give him his AJ payday and let him retire before Fury gets out of his caravan after him.
There is no comparison with Holy after you google "Evan Fields." Some people have said that Spinks did the PEDS, too. I do not know anything about that, but his heavyweight career was brief, and Usyk certainly can beat and aging or lesser champion and a a guy like Cooney.
usyk has yet to face anyone the true size of some of the guys the other 2 faced. so the whole fighters are bigger today argument means nothing really. people seem to think that the much bigger hw today are a result of evolution, as if those other guys fought in the 1800s or something. then they willingly ignore when a guy like ruiz proves them wrong. so now we got a tiny guy who is so badass, that he is gonna beat the behemoths of today, who would have naturally beat the smaller hw of yesterday...except for ruiz who was an anomaly, and not the real thing, like usyk. this is the logic and reasoning i see used here. the videos are pretty clear. you can clearly see who is doing what and in what manner.
fine. you want to blame it all on peds, as if nothing else made a difference, have at it. pretty weak imo, but it takes all kinds.
i will raise you another guy who did what usyk is trying to do. feel free to compare him too, to what you see above. This content is protected
Moorer's more of a seek and destroy type fighter. I see more similarities between him and Gassiev than Usyk. I mentioned on another thread that I see Usyk as a cross between a more upright Byrd and Joe Calzaghe. I'll add in that he also at times reminds me of an Olympic fencer with the way he spears shots in at range before darting out again.
he is a snake charmer. usyk taps and taps till he feels your defense soften for a split second and he sneaks in all the power he can. it catches fighters off guard. its old strategy but effective if you know how to use it. i prefer when they use it by punching the surface with real punches, then sneaking a punch through the target shot. one, because the surface punches still look good and score while you condition your opponent to half power. then when you put full power, its not expected because youve been throwing real punches all along and not pitty pat slaps.
Usyk can definitely punch when he sits down on shots, but like Fury he prefers to throw mostly upper body arm punches that allow him to remain on the move. Even those look like they sting, based on the physical and mental effect they have on his opponents. That's why I think a comparison with Byrd is a good one, another guy who often got the respect of his larger opponents despite not seeming to have very much power at all.
Usyk is a relatively light hitter compared to the rest of the HW division. All of the top guys hit harder than him, but keep in mind he can punch too. Any athletic man over 200 pounds who throws with proper technique will hurt you if he lands clean. Obviously, he's not a concussive puncher like other top HW's, but he hits hard enough that when he lands it will hurt and you will feel it.
if he thinks he will be king one day, then yeah, hes in for a lot of hurt. just not built for this lane. he could still make interesting fights with the second string. keep them occupied so the top fighters can fight each other.
