Bit of a nerdy post this so apologies in advance. I wondered, does anyone else find the Sky camera work frustrating and quite limiting on the view of the fight? It tends to be from the camera man moving around the side of the ring, it often means you can’t really see the fighters footwork and it’s too panned in. I find it really annoying. Other broadcasters also use this camera angle at times but predominantly it’s the old panned out view where we can see pretty much all the ring, the footwork etc.
The sound engineer annoys me more tbh bud Wish he could silence Bellew Good question though and not something ive ever thought about Will watch a few future shows with this in mind
Funnily enough, found this thread, I’m not the only one thankfully https://www.boxingforum24.com/threads/sky-box-office-coverage-of-fights-is-poor.587782/
There was a video that a fan filmed of a Floyd fight from a diagnol high a for and it was brilliant. Almost like the first ever FIFA sort of view. Was like this but another fight This content is protected
Yeah I like that. I think as long as you can see the whole ring then it works well. Sky pan in too close like a movie or something imo. Admittedly, they are capturing some good close up action but you can’t see their footwork etc which I prefer.
I said this after the Smith Ryder fight. I was there and for me Smith won, Ryder and his team all though Smith won and originally didn’t argue until they watched it back and seen the online debate. It’s different being there than watching it on tv.
I was actually going to make this exact thread the other night. It's something I always think about. It's like they use a camera angle that should only be sometimes used, all the time. I prefer the angle that shows the entire ring and is above the height of the ring.
That’s certainly true. To be honest, as much as I like going to fights for the atmosphere etc I do prefer watching the bigger fights at home for this very reason. I certainly see more and have the benefit of replays, that sort of thing. Also I don’t have to queue to ****.
Perhaps there is value there in trying to introduce a bit of innovation. Remember on Sky Sports 15-20 years ago and you could click the red button to change the camera view. I have no idea if they still have that because I haven't had Sky in years. But one of the cameras was "player cam" and you could just focus on viewing a particular player. That would have been great for scouts. Anyway, point I'm making is in boxing you could have the same thing with different camera options for birdseye, close up, far out. It is a pet hate for me as well when all they show is the action from the upper body.
Imagine sitting next to Bellew during a Price or Chisora fight. You’d be covered in slobber before the second round.
VAR in the premier league is one man sat alone in a portakabin. How about in boxing one judge is sat alone backstage locked in a room, no phone or communication, watching the fight with no commentary and can score the bout?
Don't worry about camera angles. All you need to know is that Chisora is in the best shape of his career and we've got Katie Taylor again in a couple of weeks time, and can Dillian Whyte regain his position among the absolute elite of heavyweight division, and "Anthony Joshua !", yes, the excitement is giving you a hard-on.
